How far can you get on full tank?

Really pleased with new 2023 x5 LCI. Approximately 8000 miles in 8 months. Mild hybrid engine has been a revelation. Fantastic low end torque and fuel economy has been fantastic. Filled up to today and computer indicated a range of 970 miles. No range anxieties here 😀

They number has very little meaning. If I drive from Santa Cruz mountain to Sunnyvale Costco and fill up, I can get that number too. But if I drive from Sacramento to truckee and fill up, I get 350 miles

They important number is the average mpg in your trip computer. That is the real consumption over time. What is it?

The LCI started in 2024 but that looks like what you have. Which model is it? You surely will not get over 900 miles on a tank. I'm a little disappointed on how that gauge works because it looks at your past driving and projects a forecast. However, after filling up, as you drive it, it will slowly become more of a telltale than it is just after the fill up. Keep an eye on it and you'll become familiar with how it works.

I find I’m routinely getting over 800 mile range.
Average consumption from factory is 45.7 mpg (Uk) and for month of April over 1346 miles was 47.2 mpg. Was one of the first LCI delivered in September 2023. X5 30d. 48 Volt Mild-Hybrid
294 horsepower and 670 Newton-meters

Oh diesel, sure sure. Diesel mpg is much higher than gasoline mpg.

Gasoline 40i LCI, best case is probably 450-500miles. But that predicted gauge, it is just predicting based in about 18 mile of history. Most of us know how to create a large reading.

ah so, you have a diesel. Does your phone app give monthly summaries?

UK gallons are ~20% larger than US gal, so 47.2 MPG(UK) = 39.3 MPG(US)

Pro of large tank = long range driving
Con of large tank = expensive as heck to fill from empty.

Yes but no more expensive than filling a smaller tank twice.

Just returned from a 1721 mile round trip and consumed 71 US gallons of fuel. M60i here.

I drove a rental 2024 X5 40i and did mostly local highway drive (40-60 mph with some traffic lights). Averaging 32 MPG for a 500 mile round trip.

Realistically it's something like maximum 700 miles from full to empty on these road conditions.

I’ve gotten over 500-miles on my 45e before I had to refill the tank on a long day cruising the interstate. More normal, day-to-day is probably about 400-miles, but cruising, as long as you aren’t going autobahn speeds, is pretty efficient. The 40i with a larger tank, or one of the diesels, that should be easy under the same conditions.

Per volume, diesel has about 10% more energy, so it should go further on a gallon than the gasoline versions.

Filled up earlier this week and it showed 425 miles. I’ll never get that much though.

Currently average about 16.7-16.9MPG.

I didn’t buy the V8 to just put-put around town.

My commute/errands/kid taxi cab duties are all fairly short distances and on city streets so I wouldn’t expect to get a whole lot better even if I did drive around in comfort mode all the time.

Oh yeah. Absolutely would be on the pipe with the V8. For the HP of the car and weight it actually gets decent mileage I think. What a beast.

I was able to go from Houston, TX to just short of Crowley, LA and back on a single tank in my M60i. I don't remember the exact distance but it was well over 400 miles and the low fuel light didn't come on until I was literally pulling into my driveway. Average MPG was about 24.

Cruising as long as it’s not at something like autobahn speeds, is fairly efficient for any vehicle…varying speeds, start stop, hard acceleration will all eat into max range. Only you can decide what works for you. Most of us don’t seem to care about it and just do what feels right in the situation for better or worse.

I'm lucky enough not to personally care in terms of my wallet but, like drinking water, its limited at some point so I try not to 'waste' it but I don't baby the car either. I recall reading an article years ago when NY went to the 55mph speed limit. Their research was based on 55 being the sweet spot in terms of air/wind resistance and mpg. As you exceed 55, your mileage goes down.
Anyone here happy with driving at 55? It seems so freak'd slow but I did a test a number of years ago and found that their research finding had merit.

My app tells me my average fuel consumption is just below 13 liters per 100km, so about 18 mpg US. Far better than what I expected

I got my 3.0d LCI 2 months ago. As somebody called out, I think what makes sense is to look at the trip data for "from factory". My assumptions would be that they refer to the very first day of usage of the car. Correct me if I am wrong.

For our metric system friends, my data shows 8.1 liters of diesel for 100Km. Mainly usage within city, very little motorways so far, so I guess this may improve with longer trips. Previous 3.0d showed 7.5 L / 100Kms.

So, far: 12Km with 1 liter of diesel, around 6,5 miles.
