2022 G05 Lug Nut Tool
Does anyone know if the lug nuts take a special tool or are just a generic size? I don't have a metric allen large enough to test fit and don't really want to buy one if it isn't the correct tool to use.
Any help would be appreciated. |

I use a hand held torque wrench to un-torque and torque the bolts with this socket. I do use a drill (not an high torque impact driver) with the socket for efficiency on getting the bold started with putting on or finished when taking off. So far the socket has worked well. But at it's price point, I wouldn't expect it to last a lifetime...and that's ok.

I just put a couple of wraps of electrical tape around a regular 17mm impact socket. Works great, and I know it's not going to crumble like that Chinese POS.

BTW the tightening torque is 105 ft/lbs for the G05. and for most bmw cars for that matter.
I attached a PDF I created from the data for most BMW models |

While you could use an impact wrench to remove a bolt, you really shouldn't be using one to install one.
OEM BMW locking bolts don't have all that many 'keys', so if you're really worried about security, I bought a set from www.rimgards.com. Expensive, but I think they look good, and should be much more reliable about keeping your rims on your vehicle than any locking bolt. |

Wheel hanger pin
Does anyone use wheel hanger pins?
I want to buy, but do not know if they are M14 x 1.25 or M14 x 1.15 or something else for the 2022 X5 xDrive 40i Last edited by I2P; 09-17-2022 at 06:26 PM.. Reason: added vehicle |

Try to get aluminum if you can, most are stainless steel though. Watch out for the knurled parts, they will scratch your rims up. I just used some electrical shrink tube on that area on mine to prevent that. |

Just FYI, I was searching for this info in the manual for my new 2024 X5 and it states the correct torque is 101 ft. lbs. On my car the 17mm is still the correct lug size. I use 2 of the aluminum pins when I remove and attach wheels, I've used them for years (on my Porsches) and love them. Does anyone know the Torx size for the internal portion of the lugs? T60 is too big and T55 is too small, is there a special one for the BMW? Thanks
