🤬 Check Engine Light 1 week post-delivery
Argh! 😡 One week to the day post-delivery after waiting almost 4 months on my 2024 x40i with Msport and check engine light came on tonight. Code reader shows
034b MIL request: Yes Cda6 MIL request: No 8080 MIL request: No Quick search doesn’t tell me what the codes mean, and seems the first one all in red on the code reader is most concerning. Thinking I may need to take my husband’s M2 on a trip we have to go in tomorrow (approximately 350 miles round trip) … Any advice welcome! Planning to take it in Monday morning, but in the mean time … help! Last edited by NanerPowered; 07-28-2023 at 10:13 PM.. |

Welcome to the forum. Could be a number of things but most like the stuck valve issue that others are having. Your dealers will be able to track it down. Have a safe trip.

thats so sad to hear, i just picked up my 50e earlier today and i am stressing out knowing that its very likely my check engine light will come on as well. after spending close to 96k with all the addons this is quite frankly unacceptable.

Hopefully it’s the worst of it though and they get it figured out and fast! |

I am at 4k miles with the 50e and I havent seen the engine light come back on since I cleared the error code at 800 miles 2 months ago. I wouldn't stress about it. These cars are complicated but way superior and well built then those we drove 20-30 years ago.

You are assuming there is a batch of part that was bad; however we do not know if that is the case. It also could be the part has design flaw that make it prone to premature failure; if that is the case only updating the part itself will fix the issue. This was the case for MY18-19 G01 active grill shutter issue.

Could mean you can get stranded any time. And potentially replace it multiple times: In kind replacement and eventually new design replacement. Hopefully it’s sorted out soon and spare parts made available. |

The wife is pissed. And the other issue, they can't replicate, so now I have to take time off of work to bring it in and demonstrate. I've owned enough BMWs to know that this is all SOP, but it's still annoying.

I did a testdrive with a 50e with some 10.000km and the dealer said they had no issues. I also saw no CEL |

I do not have these aggregate data, so everything is just an example. In this case, we may see the probability this part fail prior to reaching 1000 miles is quite high - but it does not say every part will fail by then. Maybe some will fail at delivery, some fail around a few hundreds miles, some at a a few thousands miles, and some may never fail within its practical service life. One simple example is light bulb - you can buy a knockoff one for $0.5 or a nice brand name one for $5. Both of them may fail within 10 year of usage; however you'd expect to see rate of failure at 10 year usage for $0.5 at much higher rate than $5 ones. Regarding to if the problem is design vs. manufacturing, we really don't know. Say for example this part requires a 8kg/cm torque servo to operate correctly; if BMW made wrong calculation and decided to put a servo motor rated 6kg/cm here it is a design issue; if BMW calls for 10kg/cm servo but some bad batches were only in reality capable for <7kg/cm, then it is a manufacturing "bad batch" Last edited by aaaaaaaaaz; 07-30-2023 at 11:28 AM.. |
