I just got my vehicle back from the latest CEL visit. They replaced BOTH A/C coolant valves. This surprised me, as others have been reporting only one was replaced. Maybe this is BMW being proactive.
Anyway, I'm only going to have this another month until my '25 arrives. After two SME replacements, multiple software updates, and this, I wonder if the vehicle will finally be problem-free for the next person that owns it. |

I just had another drivetrain failure with a giant ‘stop’ and dont drive show up across the whole dash when just opening the drivers door. I hadn’t even tried to turn the vehicle on. I ignored it and ‘started’ the car (50e). It deove normally. Warning dissapeared as soon as I hit the start button. This same thing happened a couple weeks ago and resolved itself then too. I have it booked in next week. Seems like it must be a software issue since both times I hadn’t even tried to turn it on.

X5 50e in shop for second time today with cel on. First time they did a software upgrade and that lasted about a month. 21F04B 21F120 codes Sounds like I have the same issues everyone else here is having. How do I bring up buyback? Is it still too early since only the second time? Bought car in mid January 2024.

You can pick up your X5 now. BMW released a software for this issue since it was the same fault as last time. The vehicle's internal clock keeps showing incorrect information, this is confusing the vehicles other modules. It has been updated, if this fault returns it will need the module, but only time will tell.

Sorry you are dealing with it also. They offered to swap ours so we have a 2025 being built (have to pay a small difference but nothing crazy). Maybe ask them if it is an option if it continues. We were over 30+ days with it in the shop after owning it for 3 months

When do the '25s start shipping? We had a build on the books and canceled it due to this issue. We're in no rush to buy a car (just want the car) so happy to wait.
But I'm curious when we'll start seeing whether or not the new models have the same issue still. |

I think the first MY25 50e's are scheduled for next week. You likely won't be able to get any handle on whether there were changes for a few months or so. As far as we have seen/heard, there are no changes being made to the MY25's in regards to addressing any issues. Hopefully the almost month downtime is due to reengineering and not the ongoing supply issue. I have my doubts though as some 50e's are still being pushed back.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but our problems started when my wife got a job that requires the X5 to use hybrid mode and taking the battery down to zero, about 36 miles each way. After a few days of this trip we get the cel it seems. Prior, she was able to get to work and back in electric mode with a few miles to spare on the battery and never had a problem. For some reason it seems the issue has to do with hybrid mode going long distances. Car drives fantastic, actually the best driving car I have ever had, but the system gets confused somehow and then the cel. Seems like a software glitch to me but like bmw, I have no clue what is really causing it. We’ll see what they say this time.

My buyback offer from BMW NA included a deduction of 10 cents per mile. I didn't follow through though, as I'm handling this through my dealer instead.

Good luck. My SME was replaced twice after multiple software updates didn't fix the issue. After the second SME, I got another CEL and they replaced the coolant valve.

I was on the phone with the phev specialist at bmwna this morning and asked if the system causing the issues was updated for the 2025 x5 50e model and he said he didn’t think so. That is kinda scary and I wonder if the same issue will be with the 2025’s too? I guess you guys who get them will let us know soon.
