I'm hoping they made some type of change during the period of limited production that will take care of all of this. While we have some vehicles that were built at the beginning of that period that have had the CEL, I don't think we have heard of any built after mid-January exhibiting the problem. Granted, very few US bound 50e's were made during that period. It would be great that the supply issue was the ability to get the reengineered parts in sufficient quantity and the down time in the beginning of April was use to ramp up production of them. Of course we have no indication that any of that is what happened but we can hope.

CEL on after 6 months with 4000miles

hey, I'm pretty new here. Just wanna be a part of this thread here. Spotted the CEL on Monday 5/6/24 after 6 months with 4000 miles. drop it off at dealership the next day, they scanned and told me nothing's wrong. No recalls and malfunctions, they checked the logs seems I have too many charging error that the system is complaining about it, so the CEL is on. That's how they told me. I got my car back today 5/9/24. Hopefully, it's that simple.
I'll message my SA tomorrow to ask for some recommendations.
Just wanna check if anyone has encountered this:
I'm plugging into my outlet which is 110v in my garage on daily basis, sometimes I see there's charging error that shows insufficient grid power..
sometimes it'll work when I replug-in, other times I just wait maybe couple of hours or next day to charge it. Has anybody seen the same error? I start to doubt that if it's because I charge it via 110v outlet. Well, isn't it suppose to work on 110v outlet?

Welcome to the forum. You are not doing anything wrong in regards to charging. That is just something the dealers say to avoid working on the issue. More than likely the CEL will be coming back and they will have to start replacing parts. Good luck and maybe you will be one of the very small minority where the CEL did not come back on.

Got a new X50e in trade in of old 50e

Just came back to Bimmerpost after purchasing a x5 50e.

To cut a long story short: I bought an 50e from local dealership and after 3000 miles the check engine light came on and it literally stopped when I was on highway.

To cut a long story short: I requested that they take back the 50e and change it to the one from Jan 2024. Went back and forth they saying it’s all taken care of etc etc etc. I stood my ground and had a brilliant sales guy who I bought car from. 3 weeks later they traded mine in and I got a newer version and only paid $1000 ( I should not have but Ok with it. ) New 50e has 5700 miles now and no issues so far. However I will take it through an attorney if I have issues with all the information I have gleamed from this site.

I am not mentioning the dealership however admin can get in touch with me and I will give all the information to them. Do not want my NDA to be used against me.

Much love to all of you that come to this site and help mechanically brainless like me.

You have an NDA from trading a vehicle in? That seems overbearing to me.

I'm new to the forum and a new X5 50e owner also with a CEL. It's actually come on and reset itself at least a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. Steadily on now at 1200 miles, with a permanent DTC - DME 3425A, indicating a short or break in the temperature sensor circuit for the radiator outlet. Bimmerlink can't reset it.

Interestingly, if I drive in Hybrid or Sport mode (requiring the engine to run), the CEL resets after a couple of drives. If I drive in electric only mode, the CEL turns back on. Already made an appointment as soon as a loaner was available, just in case the part swap wait dance ensues.

(2024 X5 delivered March 15 - will fix my profile shortly)

I'm really fed up with BMW. I regret buying the same car a second time. I don't love this car anymore because we're always taking it to the dealership for repairs.
BMW NA agreed to purchase my vehicle back. I got the email/call from them this morning and not not quite understand the process.

They mentioned like below -
We will reimburse you the full purchase price less the amount directly attributable to the use of the vehicle. If you claim incidental or collateral expenses relating to the vehicle, please provide me with proof of those expenses prior to the date of the vehicle surrender, and we will increase your refund to include those amounts.

My question is Do I get the whole amount of the vehicle plus what I paid during monthly installments?

Also how much they usually charge for the mileage that I drove? Currently vehicle had 6,300 miles on it.

TurtleBoy Any feedback from you is much appropriated.

It truly sucks that there so many issues others are having with the X5 50E. I just hope mine doesn’t blowup.

I turned 7000 miles on my X5 50E with a build date of 8/2023.

Issue 1: the dealer sold the car as new when it was registered prior to me, I bought the car with 67 miles. I did not get the tax rebate. I have not decided to take action on this yet.

Issue 2:
The word “Set” stopped displaying when setting the automatic cruise.

Those are my only issues. The vehicle has performed beyond my dreams with outstanding fuel costs, $15 USD electricity and $6.65 avg in gasoline a month.

I purchased it as a compliment to my M3 and XC60 Polestar.

Check to make sure you didn't turn it off, perhaps you have it set to just display the limit and not be able to use Set to set the cruise to it.

Yes, they will cut you a check for the full purchase price along with any payments you've made. I believe mileage calculations are different in different states. In my case, they wanted to deduct 10 cents per mile.

Depending on the details of your purchase (trade-in, interest rates, incentives, etc.) this may not make you whole. In my case it didn't so I reached out to the GM of the dealership instead and handled it through them. The alternative of selling the car back to BMW NA and repurchasing a '25 would have cost me about $6,000 more overall. I am now doing a substitution of collateral where everything is the same financially and only the VIN is swapped.

Thanks for the info, Which state are you from? I’m in Texas and not sure how much the miles deductions.

Also why you have cost 6K more for the new vehicle? Is it because the second car was transactioned as a new purchase again?

It is a new transaction with different incentives, financing rates etc.

Gotcha, they asked whether I need the trade assist or buyback I choose the buyback option. I don’t want to make 3rd mistake again to buy the 25 model(already did the 2nd mistake to purchase the same model (24) ). Looks like the issue still exist in the newer models too.

Now looking for options between RR Sport and Porche cayenne.

Yes, I also had a trade-in which reduced the sales tax of the original purchase considerably. That tax savings would have been lost on a buyback and repurchase.

Starting my 4th week in the shop.

Hello hope you are having a good day. I just wanted to make contact, the repair on your vehicle has to be performed by a qualified high voltage technician and he is in the middle of another job. The part came in already so he will start on it soon. I will update you as we go. Thank you.

Yep. Only certain techs are allowed to work on these batteries. Your X5 will be surrounded by caution tape and it will look like a crime scene. It takes about 90 bolts to put it all back together. They did this to mine TWICE.

Car was in a few weeks ago for a check engine light with no associated issues. Was in for about a week while they updated the vehicle. Got it back, ran fine and no issues. Just got in it a little bit ago with it plugged into the level 1 charger and got the wrench with the high voltage light. I'll check in the am but hoping it's not the systemic issue that a lot of other have had. Have roughly 7800miles on it. Any "resets" at home I may be able to try other than just turning it off and back on to see if that clears it?

You may find that it works just fine when you try to start it again in the morning. However, it is indicative of a underlying issue so you should definitely take it in.
