Idrive

Please note over the last month or so both my X6 2022 model and x5 2019 model the Idrive reboots whilst driving. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Not sure if it’s associated with the iPhone connections to the Idrive, even BMW dealer can’t explain it. It blanks out and reboots within 5 - 10 seconds

I've experienced this issue with our 2018 540.
Seemed like everytime I drove it I'd get a reboot. This went on for months and I don't know what "fixed" it.
Maybe it went infor routine service and an update was applied.

It's not my daily so I didn't have to deal with it so much.
The wife did daily it and never experienced the issue some how.

I wrote it off to my phone being different os/version/model maybe and BT ... no clue.

Thanks for the reply, it seems like it started occurring after the latest BMW update we undertook few months back

what version? and same version in both vehicles?

I updated both my G05 and G30 to 11/2023.50 a month ago. no iDrive issues

what troubleshooting steps did your dealer actually do? any water ingress? I’d disconnect the 12V battery negative terminals in both vehicles for 60 seconds, but you may need to discuss with them the need for new head units.

2019 BMW X5 40i  [0.00]
This happened to my 2019 back in March while I was driving. Entire screen is black out for 10-15 sec and came back on.

I am not sure if is the iDrive issue or not because my iDrive stays at 07/2021.85 and couldn’t get two new additional updates from last year. 07/2022.58 & 11/2022.60

Could be an iPhone issue I think because I was running Google map at the time.

The installed version on my BMW x5 is 03/2024.35

This spontaneous reboot just happened to me last Sunday. driving along and the streaming music stopped and the idrive screen went black. car continued to operate with the instrument cluster going to default. I hit the home button and the system rebooted (this may have been a coincidence). I had to sign back into my idrive account which worked as designed and everything was restored immediately. It was strange. Has functioned normally since.

I’ve just realised it’s when my phone is connected the Idrive screen blanks out. On my wife’s x6 when I’ve disconnected my phone and she has been driving it there has been no issues. Could it be all the data on my phone ?
