Good news, bad news
Welp, let the games begin.
The Good News: I just got a text from my CA telling me my production date ETA is end of next month (slightly sooner than anticipated). The Bad News: When I looked at the production details, it listed "Full LED lights". I asked about this, saying I was under the impression the 50e includes BMW Laserlight as standard. His reply: "So my genius is telling me there is no more laser lights on 2025 orders. They are no longer doing them on builds even with the M versions." Sigh. I hope this isn't the start of more surprise "Oh, by the way" notes. |

yea, Googling confirms that. My fault for not being aware of this, but I had seen "BMW Laserlight" referenced as being standard equipment on the 50e. Things I'm reading now suggest the adaptive LEDs promise to be an improvement over the Laselight LEDs, so there's that.

The lights in my LS460 turned with the steering wheel and I loved that. You're saying the laserlights did that and the adaptive LEDs don't? Even more of a bummer.

That is correct. The "adaptive" part of the LEDs are that they move up and down, they do not turn with the steering wheel.

The adaptive LED lights aren't as good as the laser lights in my opinion.

The bad news for the USA is that DOT chose their own route for the anti-dazzle logic that BMW has enabled in most of the rest of the world. That functionality had the high beams on most all of the time, but adjusted the beam pattern to avoid blinding others on the road. Two aspects of the US mandate for them that increased the difficulty in implementing them legally here were the response time when coming around a corner or on a hill, and the overall brightness.
While some have programmed their laser lights to the Euro spec, technically, it’s illegal…a really anal inspection might catch it, but probably not, but it is better. That technology does not require the laser lights, but could work with certain LEF configurations as well. Given the locking down of the code on the LCI, i don’t know if the coding changes could still be made. |

However, my sense is that the light beam is less bright, and reaches a shorter distance than the lights I had on the 7 series. I’m referring to normal driving conditions, when the high beam isn’t engaged. That is the greatest weakness. I don’t miss the turning functionality - the lights on the G05 spread wide enough to the sides

Not really. There’s a tiny bit of blue plastic on the side of the light housing

Interesting... So I have the shadow line version... good to know. I hope, the darkening doesn't affect the actual bulbs, making them less bright

That is correct, it was dropped for the LCI.

My M50i was built in 2023 and had Laser lights.
