Isn't this all about YMMV? I have been to excellent Jeep dealers and crappy BMW dealerships. Overall there are more solid BMW dealers out there, but experiences are all over the place.

I had a couple of the last gen Grand Cherokee and it was solid, no issues at all. I have no doubt that Jeep is struggling with their new PHEV version, but BMW is also. I know this since I had to dump my 50e which was a very frustrating vehicle.

Where Jeep lost me was when they went upscale to the Wagoner for over $100K. The experience overall just isn't there.

Wagoneer was supposed to have a totally unique experience. You were supposed to basically not have to do anything, and they'd bring you another wagoneer as a loaner while your car is being serviced. Not sure how that plays out in the real world, but that's what they promise.

It's unique for sure, not too many folks can be convinced to pay over $100k for a Jeep.

Pretty sure that's exactly how my X5's sunroof works, too?

I can honestly say that my experience with both of my current BMWs (E93 M3 and G05 45e) has been stellar. Never been at the dealer for any issue longer than a few hours, and they have complimentary pickup/dropoff service so I don't even have to go to the dealer.

Seems like BMW has always had a reputation for great transmission tuning/mapping.

I don't think I'd agree with that. I see as many of them around as I see X7s. Could be location specific I suppose, but I see plenty of Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers.

Our expedition has 5 buttons for the moonroof, it's nice. Open and close of the shade, open, close, and vent the roof. If you use the roof buttons it does the shade as needed too.

My dealer doesn't do pickup and drop off. I wish they did, my dealer is "just ok" to work with. Wait 3+ weeks for an appointment if you need a loaner, have to go in to pickup and drop off, only open until 6pm, barely open on weekends. We actually get better service from the Ford dealer on the expedition, they will pick up and drop off our car and provide a loaner. Their loaners are also booked up pretty far out. Surprised they don't just give you a mach E for the trouble of having to have your car serviced, God knows they're not selling them lol

That was a tongue in cheek comment. It likely is just your location as X7 sales are about double the Grand Wagoneer.

Normally, yes, YMMV. Not saying BMW is perfect but, in my experience, even on a bad day, it's 1000X better than Jeep. At least I can A)generally get a loaner B)Sit in a leather club chair with a free snack and some HGTV vs a plastic folding table, powdered coffee, zero entertainment and an airport priced bag of chips. If my Jeep were 1/2 the price of my X5, I'd accept that. It's not, it's a $65K recall magnet.

I also couldn't tell you of a wagoneer is a regular or grand wagoneer without being close enough to read it, so there's that too. They're effectively the same vehicle to me.

I've also had good luck with a mid-2010's Jeep Grand Cherokee, and River Oaks Chrysler is an excellent dealer with a large inventory. This followed a 2010 X5 35d. You sit a little higher in the GC and it's not quite as luxurious, but still pretty nice. Things I didn't like about it: i) noisy inside at highway speeds (Overland model--Summit trim was quieter with acoustic glass); ii) V-8 gas mileage and range weren't great compared to the X5 diesel; iii) touch screen had some functions that should have been physical buttons (sound familiar?); iv) no front parking sensors on Overland trim (Summit had them); v) no comparison to the X5's comfort seats; vi) no HUD (my X5 diesel didn't have that either); and vii) no rear comfort access buttons (new X5 has removed those also). Still, for the price I thought it was a nice vehicle and it looked pretty good when I sold it three years ago. I would consider another one if it had more power. Maybe they'll make one with the new hurricane engine (turbo I-6 vs. current non-turbo V-6).

I had a 2017 GC Summit Hemi (bought new), that I traded in for my 50E last year. I was happy with it, not too many issues.

Now, with the tech and comfort of my 50E, there is NO comparison at all. Lightyears ahead…
