21" or 22" wheels for newX5 '25 M 60i
I’m interested in the groups input on my build. Arrives in about 4 weeks
Getting built next week - I think. Horrible NY roads w always massive pot holes - drove me to order air suspension. I don’t want to get into the adaptive suspension discussion- ride comfort on these roads is a necessary. What I am on the fence about are the 22” vs 21” wheels. So 21 or 22? I ordered the 21” as I felt I’d get about an inch more sidewall cushion. But they are run flats which ride firm to begin with. Or I could move to the 22” but then worry about no side wall harsh ride even with non run flats. Comments please. Keep reminding yourself- some of the worst roads in the country. |

I would go 20s if I could but that's me: I'm old and when I look at wagon wheels I see reduced road conformity leading to less traction, increased exposure to road hazards, lowered fuel economy, ride degradation, reduced turn-in do to the increased rotational inertia, and a loss of performance in every measurable metric.
What I do not see is anything cool whatsover. So... Among the available answers, I'm going 21's. |

My same choice. 20” aren’t staggered. So you’re getting 275s all around. Looks whimpy. Even my 2014 X5 m sport pkg has 335 in the year. Looks mean.
21 s and the smallest and get staggered wheels. Except the 21” from the factory are run flats. Dealer won’t swap out for non run flats. If go 22” I can get non run flats. Which might offset the 1” of side wall loss? At this point it’s ordered w 21s. When the tires wear out I’ll go with an AS non run flat. It will be even better then |

I am so glad I have 20" square setup. Between the harsher ride, being prone to more road hazards, and the pita of getting all season/winter tires... no thanks.
And I'm going to speak blasmathy here... On an X5 sized SUV... I think they look better.. So. To answer your question. Pot holes aside..21". Never 22" on an X5 sized vehicle...of course, imho.. ymmv

I have the 21” M915 wheels on my M60 and one of the negatives is the very limited choices and availability of tires in the staggered sizes. Many more options in 20” tires.

I went with 22” and glad that I did. Love the look and ride quality on them. Also, for the winter time bought set of 20” oem wheels with all season. Yes,ride quality on 20” is more smother /softer.
I don’t see a reason of getting 21s if you still can’t get them with all season tires and they are run flat. |

Post this on the G05 side and you’ll get more input. F95s don’t roll on 20s from the factory.
