X4 Lease ending and thinking of X6

My '22 X4 M40i is going to be coming to the end of its lease in the Fall. I love the car, but I'm thinking about upgrading to the X6. Since the LCI was the news for the '24 models, I am assuming not to expect any big changes for 2025 models? (or really even for a few more years?)

I know that there are occasional product plans posts covering what is known about changes to models in future years, but could not find one.

Thanks for any insight.

No significant changes except Driving Assistance Pro has eye recognition for lane changes.

The MY25's are already out, they started production last month.

I think this is software upgrade which should be pushed to MY 24 cars too. But I might be wrong.

Very unlikely it will be. They are using it as a MY differentiator.

Wow I thought I saw product demo videos on the ‘24 of the eye recognition lane change. I was unaware this is new for ‘25. What is the purpose of the infared camera cutout in the dash screen then? I thought that’s what kept track of eye movements, but if it wasn’t active in ‘24 then what does it do?

I might be remembering wrong. But I recall seeing the “glance at the side mirror to confirm lane change” in the MY 24 builder under DAP sometime late last year. That’s what made me believe it might be SW pushed to 24.

That’s what I remember also, seeing it in MY 24 builder late last year.
The eye tracking cameras are primarily used for attention tracking. If you’re using the highway assist and not looking straight ahead, it’ll yell at you.

That camera has always been used on the G05. It is mainly used for hands-free driving ot make sure the driver is looking ahead. The exception to that is when you are using assisted driving in stop and go traffic. When you are stopped the vehicle will not move board with traffic if you are not looking ahead.

As an aside, it is not an infrared camera, it is an optical camera using infrared lighting.

Definitely worth following this if you're prone to FOMO:

My F16 X6 was definitely my favorite driving SUV so far (honestly, one of the better driving BMWs I've had), I'm sure you'll enjoy the current model, and with the recent LCI, you should be good for another lease term on the X6 without any major differences... you'll start to see the G65 X5 rolling around in 2027 which will be good timing for the next lease end assuming you're still sticking with 3 year leases.

The G45 X3 is going have it's product launch the middle of next month... so something to at least consider and keep an open mind on as you're looking toward the X6. The next X4 will still be a bit out, but the next X3 should be a pretty big upgrade on the interior compared to your current X4.

They changed the web site description of DAP when another series had the lane change by eye. The same description block was used for multiple vehicles that had DAP as an option whether lane change by eye was available for that model or not.

Thanks so much for this information and the info on what's happening ahead.

I will definitely be checking out the new X3, but I really do like the look of the coupes. (no kids, hardly ever any passengers and no trips to Home Depot )

The driving experience definitely differs as well. I think the relative seating position is a little lower in the car... I feel like I was never able to get low enough in my X5 and my current X7. The X6 was much better in that regard. It gives them more of a GT type feel, similar to how my M8 was.

I'm in a similar situation! I currently drive an X4 M40i and have been considering upgrading to an X6 M50i. While the X6 is undoubtedly more luxurious, my experiences with it during rentals have left me preferring the M40i for its handling. I enjoy spirited drives, and despite the M50i's straight-line performance, I find its leaning during fast turns frustrating, even in Sport Plus mode. The M40i feels more dynamic during canyon drives, which I usually tackle with my 911 or M2 when alone, but opt for the X4 when my family joins. Despite my age, I still feel like a boy at heart! Perhaps one day, when comfort outweighs handling, I'll make the switch to the X6.
