BMW Dealers - Out of State Sales
While perusing various BMW centric sites in my search for a build X5 M60 or 50e I have seen discounts of up to 7% off MSRP, typically via a broker. My local dealers are offering at best 3-3.5% off MSRP unless it is one that has been sitting for a few weeks, unfortunately I have not liked any of these. Curious if anyone has recently had luck building and purchasing an X5 from out of state with a near 7% discount off MSRP?

I’d give a call to Reading (PA) BMW. Two years ago they were at 7% discount and I believe a huge chunk of their business was from out of state buyers.
If you do call, pls post a follow up… |

I too am interested in hearing if anyone has a good car broker or car concierge that can get me a better deal. I have only one BMW dealership in my city and they can be very inflexible.

I am in Co, but have family in Portland and Medford, the drive wouldn’t be a deterrent for a 7% savings. Family wouldn’t mind a short vacation!

I've bought plenty of vehicles from out of state, but if you're only doing it for a discount you want to be aware that the dealers all know that schtick. That is, when they know you're only talking to them because of the price, they're more inclined to add on last minute fees and not do you a single other favor.
At this point I've dealt with enough long distance car purchase issues that traveling hundreds of miles to save $1500 on an $80k car doesn't end up being worth it in the long game.

I used a broker last November. I recommend using it.
Prior to reaching out to my broker, I think I reached out about five or six dealers in three different states (Four of them are local). None of them offered any discounts. Some wanted a $3k non-refundable deposit. So I reached out to a broker, they explained to me the proccess, and answered all my questions. So I pulled the trigger. It was a very easy process and ended up receiving a 7.5% discount from an out of state dealership. I booked a one-way flight and drove back home. I will use them again when we need to replace our Volvo wagon. |

BMW corporate does not impose a loaner requirement on dealerships...many (not all) dealerships will offer you a free loaner IF you bought the vehicle from them, so that's a consideration.

Also not sure how much the Virginia dealership would assist if there was ever a discussion around a buyback since I didn't buy the car from them. Obviously, hoping that never comes up!

I bought my rig CPO from Motorwerks, in Minnesota. 2021 45e, pretty loaded, but only 6,000 miles. It was literally $8,000 less than the *exact* same car here in the Puget Sound area. And they didn't try upselling me on *anything*; the very reason I wound up with them was because I was negotiating with BMW of Denver on a very similar model, and they were going to whack me like 1500 for a ceramic coat that I didn't want (I have my own ceramic guy here). In fact, the gal at Motorwerks who does all the add-on stuff was looking at it and said "you know, these just aren't very good deals because of the combo of your mileage and model year, you're paying a lot of money for not very much coverage at all" on the warranty and service deals they have. So, like so many things, it depends. If you're in a local market where BMWs are regularly selling for over sticker, willing to fly and then maybe drive a fair distance back, and have the time, it can easily pay off. |

I've purchased two X5s in Macon, GA and I live in SC. SC dealers are notorious for adding overpriced crap like tint, ceramic, nitrogen, etc. BMW Macon gave me a substantial dealer discount and never nails me for add-ons. It's about 3 hours away. Local service is available to me as that's where they make their $$ anyway.
