Gas fuel gauge miles to empty goes down
Hey guys in a serious problem, I just got the G05 40i X5 a few months ago and just last night I noticed for the first time that the miles to empty number goes down every time I accelerate by one number I don’t know if someone snipped my gas line but I’m curious to know as to what this problem is ?

Can't tell if you are just joking around or being serious. You are using the fuel when accelerating so it should go down. Ignore the range, are you getting materially less miles to the tankful?

if your gas line was snipped, you’d be leaking constantly, not just noticing it drop upon accelerating, and smell/see it on the floor underneath |

Depending on conditions, driving, etc. that could be all normal. As I asked before, are you getting materially less miles to the tankful? It certainly isn't leaking or else you would know. The range is just an estimate based on how you are currently driving, it is not an exact figure. If you notice that you are getting much less out of a tankful then maybe have your dealer look at it.

Went to the mechanic he said it was normal as I have a down pipe installed with check engine light I would need a tune to correct it as he said so nothing to worry about, thanks for everyone’s input

curious why you didn't tune after downpipe installation knowing you'd get CEL? |

The calculation is based on the quantity of fuel in the tank and how you drove the previous 30km. Say you just came off of a cruise, steady speed drive and now are in stop and go, or being aggressive on the gas pedal, and things would potentially drop, maybe precipitously. I’ve seen mine drop as much as a couple hundred miles after a long highway trip, then refilling, and then driving stop and go in the city.
