Who deals with it? I mean more than a normal person.
I have grown up with anxiety disorders. Diagnosed when little with GAD and Panic Disorder.

These days GAD still gets me and has turned more into a cardiophobia and health anxiety.

Currently 2 sessions in with a therapist so far. Hoping to not revert back to lexapro again if I can help it.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want to revert back to Lexapro? What are the downsides to it that you've experienced?

messes with sex life. (makes it hard to orgasm).
Weight gain.
Stuff is a bitch to finally get out of your system let alone come off of.
It def messes with your brain.

And I have managed in life for a long period with no med, so I know its possible.

Prefer to do it naturally if possible.

If I have to, I dont mind...it worked and worked well...I just like to manage med free is possible.

There was a really long thread a few months back. It's worth digging it up if you can find it.

I respect wanting to be as natural as possible. I'm the same way.
What I'm wondering in particular is how it messes with your brain, if you don't mind elaborating. I've been referred to these but, like you, am weary of putting all this stuff in my body.

My Mom use to suffer from anxiety for a while, but she found that if she told her self everyday that she can only control what she says and does, and everything else is uncontrollable, whatever happens happens, and with that mind frame she was able to over come it, hope this helps you.

yeah ..i would love to be in that mind frame. That you cant really control what is beyond your own control. Its very hard to get to that point and actual believe yourself though.

Went through the same thing when I was in grad school. Affected my studies and relationships big time. Came a turning point where I finally decided to suck it up and overcome my issues. So far so good...

awesome man.

I had a great period in my early 20's where i was med free and didnt have any concerns or anxiety worry.

Then mid to late 20's it started coming back...and i got on some med.

Today , I am glad to say I am off med, and managing by seeing a counselor to help change my ways of thinking (CBT)..and I take a xanax as needed during this time. If it gets to the point where my anxiety still gets the best of me, then ill go back to a SSRI (lexapro) since it worked great. Id just love to live without because I have before and feel that this is something I should be able to do on my own without daily medication. :)

I have a friend on Paxil she swears by it and thinks it has all but cured her. Hope you find relief, it's a very tough situation that you can only manage day by day. Good luck.

it has probably made the symptoms and stuff much better or go away, but its kind of like a mask if you ask me. If you take away the med, does it stay gone? Not usually the case in most instances.

This is what did it for me. I used to have terrible anxiety in my teen years, but eventually realized there was no point worrying about things I had no control over. I used the "fake it 'til you make it" mentality at the same time and it has worked wonders.

I've done a complete 180 since those days and find myself to be a much different person. Confidence is key. You can do it.

It doesn't hurt to get behind the wheel and :burnrubbe sometimes...

From personal experience: get a solid sleep schedule, go to the gym if it makes you feel good (just do cardio at the very least to get the blood flowing!), drink lots of teas, limit caffeine intake (drink decaf instead of regular if you like coffee though), relax your muscles (especially your shoulder muscles (important on the race track too; if your shoulder muscles are tense, your peripheral vision gets limited because your body goes into the "fight of flight" response and is trying to find a way out)), stay away from alcohol. Try limiting carb intake too (tough if your in the US where our diet is heavily centered around carbs).

Hope that helps

12 years later, and I have been on lexapro for years now. Anxiety isnt too bad these days for the most part, except the times I use something green and it turns bad. Which is about 93% of the time.

You have anxiety, pay for a prescription, yet smoke weed that causes anxiety anyway….

:lol::lol::rolleyes:

Secular treatments for anxiety (talk therapy, prescription meds, mantras, positive thinking) are easy to find and obtain.

Spiritual/non-secular treatments for anxiety (connection with a power in the universe) are less easy to find.

An interesting question is which treatment(s) is(are) most effective. Secular professionals neither consider, nor peer review, non-secular treatments. And likewise non-secular professionals do not spend time considering secular treatments.

The patient and non-professional caregivers/family are left to decide.

I have observed a fair amount of this as a non-professional.

I know it’s an old threat, but that’s exactly what I try to do. I really find helpful the (audio)book Resilient by Rick Hanson.
