Curious to see what kind of house projects fellow members are doing on here.

The wife and I sometimes get a bit ambitious and like to bite off more than we can chew on house projects. Love to see who else might be in the same boat.

Most recently we had been wanting to put a tv over our fireplace and I had some downtime over this Christmas break. What began as a relatively small project turned into a massive custom built-in project. After a week of late late nights and plenty of profanities (damn crown molding!), she was all done.

Nice!

Looks phenomenal. And the crown appears flawless. Mitre cuts are such a pain.

Much appreciated. I'll say it now. I. HATE. DOING. CROWN. MOLDING. Same with drywall (fortunately not on this project). Going forward I'll happily allow someone else do those for me.

Very nicely done.:clap::clap:

I put up a shelf on the tree out back to act as a bird feeder until I can get a proper one out there. That's the extent of my skills.:(

Looks great, Love the built-ins... Heres a little before and after in our Den, Bought the house last year..

Let me know what you guys think.

Pictures 1 & 2 - The real-estate listing and when we moved in..

Pictures 3 & 4 - Where we closed off the pointless doorway and prepped for an IN-Wall Middle Atlantic Audio Rack w/ Rear Access + front speaker wiring.

Pictures 5 & 6 - Rear In-Wall speakers [ HTD ] / Front Speakers wired in-wall [ PSB ] / 75" LCD [ Samsung ] + New Hardwood floors

Picture 7 - Middle Atlantic Audio Rack w/ CNC Faceplate on Receiver.. Waiting on plate for Xbox 1 & Tivo.

Big changes for not a ton of money, Equipment I already had from previous home.

Very cool. The Germans call that an Eck Bank. (Corner bench) I've spent many a comfy evening in a woodstove-warmed kitchen enjoying brats and strudel and beer and friends sitting around such a table and bench. Miss those days.

Heck yes, that looks great! I've seen some threads on the tech forums of guys who build out their own theater rooms, and it is insanity (we're talking BIG $$$!). Nice work on yours

One more of the projects we're super proud of was our kitchen right when we bought our house two years ago. Aside from drywall and the hardwood floors it was DIY w/ the help of my old man. Took about two months to complete and we pretty much lived out of our dining room. We tore down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, ripped out the soffit, kept the old cabinets and refinished them (a royal PITA to do properly). Bought the island base off of Craigslist for $30, island butcher block from Ikea and refinished both. Added can lighting, ripped out the weird pantry/laundry chute, and widened out the doorways.

One secret for cabinets... 42" cabinets (or taller) are all the rage. If you have shorter cabinets (like we did), you can add upside down baseboard + crown molding at the top to add height. That gives the illusion of them being taller than they are. Take that Chip and Joanna Gaines lol.

The before (in the kitchen - look at the classy 1960's cabinets)

Another before from the dining room looking towards the kitchen

During (down to studs and how it looked for almost 6 weeks)

The finished deal

I think this was meant for me....i don't see any other benches.

Yes. Started with a finished grade birch plywood as i planned on staining and finishing the wood. But decided on cushions and a copper table top finished with poured urethane.

Ha! That's the exact forum I was talking about. Yes... Insanity. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of disposable income to throw $70k at a room dedicated to watching TV (at least without my wife throwing me out the door lol)

That kitchen came out awesome, Really nice! I want to do the same in the spring.. Gut it, DIY some, pay the pros where I lack etc..

As for the audio stuff " Oh I know " the wife would kill me lol + with two kids I probably wouldn't be able to afford it.. I have a basement and garage project I would love to start but not until the kitchen gets re-done..

Cars are fun for sure but this is just as fun :happyanim:

Your kitchen remodel looks great. Like straight out of a magazine.

We built our house new in 2009. I got to design all aspects of it which was fun. I only have a few shots of the kitchen, none of them fully finished.
