javapro wroteRight, it was a $450 option for the 2019 & 2020 model years and then when the pricing/config guide came out in May 2020 in prep for going into the 2021 model year, it was mysteriously missing, as were things like soft close doors, acoustic glass, etc.So, it was available for 2019 MY and discontinued for later years?

fizzybubbelech wroteYou sure you want to? It was only available for a couple short years before being discontinued. There have been complaints here about how troublesome it becomes with age and use. I admit, it's a cool idea but in practice, it's sort of a claptrap design.Does anyone know if this can be retrofitted at all? Got a used G05 without the boot package. Saw the package in person - not too interested in the rails (although the look quite cool) but the electric cover is a cool/handy thing IMO.
Anyway, just go to realoem dot com, search model years 2019-2020 and find it, you will then see its parts which you can look up for pricing. I think the biggest issue would be the absence of internal wiring/connectors in later model year cars but you didn't say which year you have.
M a r t y wroteWell..it all depends on the price right? I don't want it for thousands, but for a few hundred...why not. It is cool, in my eyes. You sure you want to? I'm no stranger to retrofits albeit for VAG group cars which I had for the last +-10 years, done mirrors, lights, assistance systems, stereos, screens etc. BMW is new to me with having bought a G05 to replace wife's Tiguan any my Golf R as a single family car.
This BMW affair is all new to me so my biggest question for the exact retrofit is the electronic part... What drives the electric cover? Does it have it's own brains? Does it have to be connected to...where? I don't really need those pump up strips, but looking at realoem, that's the only option to go, as they come in a set (there is no boot cover without the strips to accomodate for the electric cover)...
So far it appears that the parts are +- available (again, depends on the price/how fast you need them). The big ones are:
the new floor door/cover (whatever you call it) designed for the boot package
the electric boot cover itself (comes with rails and cover)
2x new boot side trims (as they're now two piece rather than one piece)
2x little "triangles" that go between the rear seat and the electric boot frame assyy
and of course all the small bits and bobs (plan on finding a complete car at dismantlers)
Someone knows about connections for these? Where do the wires go?
fizzybubbelech wroteMy guess is you'd be looking at over $4-5K for parts so going to a dismantler would be your best bet and this doesn't include the wiring. You will first need to ascertain if your X5 has the wiring. If you are lucky, there might be an unused connector or two hiding under the side cargo panels and maybe all you'd need is the sub harness that plugs into them from the switches and controller - just guessing.Well..it all depends on the price right? The control box could be 61355A112E7 for the automatic cover and 61355A16090 for the cargo floor anti skid rails that pop up. On the upper left of the left rear side cover are the switches for the system, looks like they are 61319439876.
You could go to your dealer and have a chat with their parts dept manager and/or service techs. Its been so long since they discontinued it and my guess is few were actually sold that it could be an uphill battle to find anyone with the knowledge so again, if you can find a dismantler/junkyard that just happens to have one (good luck), you'd spend an afternoon tearing it apart.
A cool idea that fizzled. Do a search on the forum for it, you might find the posts where people were asking for troubleshooting help, this would give you an idea of what the issues are. As I recall, one was jamming with the cover either being stuck below the surface or half way through its travel. The area at the back of the cargo space needs to be free of anything sitting on it when trying to move the cover up and out of its storage area or bad things happened.
M a r t y wroteThanks for the PN's and insights. Do these control modules connect to...? Main computer? Convenience module? 4-5k obviously is a no go zone. It's not worth it. Quick browse in EU:
frame+electric blind approx 200 EUR
side trims for the boot approx 70 EUR per side
small triangles approx 30 EUR per side
boot cover with those strips starts at 200 EUR
side plastics (to go above the horizontal part of the frame) I have only found one side and couldn't be bothered to search other one by photos it was 40 EUR
That's parts available NOW. So with a bit of waiting around, could go either way. I'll do some other things to the car (full service) first and then look into that.
To me this electric shelf is same as soft close doors - not really needed (my doors close ridiculously easy) but hey, I WANT.
And yeah, I do wan't the soft close doors too lol.
fizzybubbelech wroteSorry, I don't know the answers. The pricing I guessed at was new prices - if even available. What year and model X5 do you have? There's a lot of logic built into the G05 so I would not be surprised if the individual control modules that I found do connect into the BDC (Body Domain Controller) which is located in the right side of the passenger footwell (left hand drive cars) but I really have no idea. I'm sure they are fused somewhere in the car. There are a few diff fuse panels, one is in the rear right, the other is at the BDC and some have one in the left front. Thanks for the PN's and insights. I got a 2019 EUDM X5, 30d, Mpack. She's in Mineral white, with full shadowline trim, coffee merino leather, leather dash, comfort ventilated seats, 2-axle air suspension, double glazing, M brakes, M exhaust, driving assistant pro, 360 cameras, heated everything, sunroof. HK stereo.
My personal "wishlist" options the car is missing are soft close doors, 4 zone climate (I like it for the buttons), travel&comfort (I like the looks) and this electrical boot cover (something magical about it).
Currently trying to figure out the exact part list for the soft-close doors (was told that F15 set also fits?), and gauging options on HK upgrades (likely Match DSP + underseat speaker replacement).
