I had an Apple Watch for a couple of years when they first came out. Personally, I didn't find it all that beneficial since I carry my phone everywhere, and most of the time it was just a glorified notification shade.

Hooked on nice mechanical watches now and don't think I could or would want to go back.

As for using a non-Apple watch with an iPhone, my understanding is that key features like sending messages don't work, which feels like your giving up a lot of the reasons you might be considering a smart watch in the first place.

I dumped my Garmin Vivoactive for a Withings Move. Does just enough tracking for me and like posted above I always have my phone anyway.

I am the absolute antithesis to everything in modern Apple's line-up and systems. As to the Apple watch, I can certainly understand their functionality - of which is extremely useful and streamlining in life. But smart watches are not for me in general, personally. Some call me a "boomer" because of this, I prefer "doomer".

Depends, if you have already an iPhone I would recommend to stick to that brand. If not I would prefer the Garmin.

I love my Garmin Marq Driver with built in timer. Great at the track.

But I also run, backpack, hike and get out a lot so good to have the motivation via accurate tracking of the metrics.

Band is sexy with red highlights.

I just ordered the Samsung Galaxy Watch (the first, not the 3 - prefer the styling of the original) with Bluetooth only and in 42mm size. I estimate my wrist circumference to be about 18.4 - 18.7 cm and think the 46mm would be just a little too big. I've got a 45mm mechanical that I never wear because, while it really does seem like it fits well, it just looks out of place.

The 42mm looks to be out of stock everywhere, but found it at Target for $220. Walmart had it for $160, but out of stock in black - Target price matched against the Rose Gold and should be here next week. Sure seems like a lot of watch for $160. Will be my first smart watch, and I'm still on the fence. Hope I like it.

Thanks again for the suggestions. The Galaxy really does look to be the best I've found for my needs. Completely overlooked them assuming they wouldn't be compatible with an iPhone.
Following up to this, the Galaxy Watch 6 currently has a Black Friday deal on. $70 off plus trade-in value dependent on the watch you are trading in.

I bought mine for $160, and with the trade-in value at $100, the watch will have cost me $60 to use for the last few years. Not a bad get.

Womp womp. Glad I didn't pick it up last night - not compatible with iOS like my old one. Apple is only option with the company-provided phone.

Been looking at the Apple Watch Ultra 3. Always wore my G-shock but now that I am moving into a management position and not in the shop as much, I plan on going to the gym more. Anyone have the Ultra 3? This will be my first smartwatch.

I’m considering buying the Garmin Venu 4 and would love to hear from anyone who’s been using it. How has your experience been so far in terms of battery life, fitness tracking accuracy, and overall usability? Would you recommend it?

I use a Garmin Fenix and I am happy not needing to charge it every day. The battery life is pretty consistent with the specs
