Embarrassing question: does the exhaust button only toggle the ASD (AKA fake sound) or does it also work flaps or valves?

Thanks in advance for helping!

Someone might correct me but I believe it actually puts it in a more aggressive open to close ratio... I don't think it is fully open when you press it but I can tell the difference in idle in the garage it gets a bit of a tone (keep in mind I have second cat delete). When driving it sounds like at about 4k rpm you can hear it really open up.

Thanks OP, that was (still is...) my question, what does this button exactly do?

Underwhelming if all that's toggled is ASD. :(

I tend to think it only turns on the fake cabin sound.. I don't hear any difference outside.

On the F97, it increased ASD and opened servos after the resonator resulting in increased external volume too. You could look to see if you have the servos on the exhaust valves. I would, but mine's in the beauty shop for another week.

Here are the valve units and here's where we tucked in the valve cable. We gave the car enough throttle, in Comfort & in neutral, for the valves to open. Immediately, we unplugged the connector from each of the valve modules on both sides so it stays permanently open no matter what.

I did the same thing today, I covered the plugs with electrical tape

Unfortunately I’ve only been able to see where it turns the little light on & off. I don’t notice any difference in sound inside or outside. Feels like a bit of joke to me. Along with some of the other settings like steering ☹️

dAHLer Exhaust Flap Valve Control Module better solution to control your exhaust flap, more aggressive sound.

I can tell a difference both inside and out. But I do seem to have very good hearing.

Surprised by all of the comments as I notice a huge difference. I tested in Sport+ and the exhaust is more muted with the light off. On my pre-LCI F90 it eliminated all pops and bangs.

Do any F95/F96 have the snap, crackle and pop feature?

Sport Plus and the button both open the exhaust flap. Takes both to get the most.

Posting just in case someone searches.....
After spending time in my garage trying to hear the difference I asked BMW and this is their reply. Basically similar to launch control the car has to be up to operating temperature
(230° on mine)

A dual-branch exhaust system, designed specifically for the BMW X5 M and X6 M offers an enticing sound emanating from the pair of 100 mm tailpipes with electrically controlled flaps. The exhaust note can be softened or increased via the M Sound Control button in the center console. The Competition models’ note is further enhanced with a standard M Sport Exhaust system which provides for a more sporty sound to match the models’ increased capabilities.

The M Sound Control function changes the sound characteristics of the exhaust gas system. When sound control is switched on, the sound of the exhaust gas system takes on a sporty nature. When sound control is switched off, the sound is focused on comfort. During the engine warm-up phase, sound control does not have any effect on the sound of the exhaust gas system

does stock tune with button press and sport plus create the pop?
07-25-2023
You'll never get the M5/M8 types pops with X5M on stock tune.
