@[no one](contact: 32763346) Nailed it!!! Luv "like them chunky", "Too sporty for my car" vid references. :clap:

Cleverly, really sums up some those 'porky/heavy weight', and other regular BMWs. That with folks 'so wanting' equivalence to true BMW ///M...meaning ///M CARS that actually race [i.e. IMSA, WEC, etc].

Nothing wrong, whatsoever in embracing M Performance, M Sport as an enthusiast...jus know, understand that badging, labels and marketing jargon does not = authentic BMW ///M - - bespoke, developed/engineered, track performance focused vehicles ;)

Some say:
> "Admission" - 1st step in the wanna-be BMW ///M recovery program
> "Believe" in a Higher Power - - Authentic BMW ///M
After that, you'll be fine as wine :drink: :lol:

OMG...^this^ is hilarious and literally made me lol...

Well played! :)

I suppose as part of his first step the "wanna-be" in the recovery program would have to admit that he's powerless to the allure of the ///M.

Factually stated, BMW M cars are full, motorsport-derived machines, while M Performance models are upgraded versions of regular BMWs.

Aside from 'stickers', badges, VINs, and marketing jargon et all - -
BMW ///M cars are built by BMW’s dedicated M division as true performance cars, developed with track capability as a priority.
M Performance models are essentially sportier trims of standard BMWs, meant for daily driving with extra punch.
> ///M car = street-legal race car
> M Performance = fast daily driver

Let's highlight just a few unmistakeable differences for understanding:

Engine and Power
///M cars:
  • Unique engines developed specifically engineered by BMW M
  • Higher rev limits, more aggressive tuning
  • Bespoke engine designations =>ie S65
M Performance:
  • Modified versions of regular BMW engines
  • Still powerful, not as extreme
Chassis and Handling
///M cars:
  • Heavily redesigned suspension, wider track, reinforced chassis
  • Advanced differentials (like active M differentials)
  • Designed for track precision and aggressive driving
M Performance:
  • Improved suspension and brakes vs base models
  • Fundamentally same platform as regular series car
  • More comfort-oriented

Transmission & Drivetrain
///M cars:
  • Special transmissions (e.g., M-specific automatics or manuals)
  • RWD-focused or performance-tuned AWD
M Performance:
  • Standard BMW transmissions
  • xDrive is common and less aggressive
Design & Features
///M cars:
  • Wider bodies, aggressive aerodynamics, quad exhausts
  • Unique interiors with M-badged displays and controls
M Performance:
  • Sportier styling (M badges, wheels, trim)
  • Less unique visually and functionally

Price & Positioning
> ///M cars: Top-tier, significantly more expensive
> M Performance: Mid-tier, positioned between base models and full ///M

So there you have it...
Perhaps it is time to close this debate, this thread...shall we? :slap:
Interesting thread, as usual, LOL. The "M" or no "M" thing.

I actually like the list you've made here. I consider my 2026 M240i an M-performance model. Thats fair and reasonable. Not full-M by any means but more special and performance oriented than the base cars/models.

No reason for this topic to always get so nasty though. Right? :lol:

:readthethread:

The Scuderia is the name of the Ferrari racing team, it means stable in italian which is why they choose it and thats what I wrote. I made no such claim that my car is a 430 Scuderia, though if you knew the performance differences its just exhaust headers, transmission software and a more dialed in suspension tuned for track use. Im perfectly happy with mine thank you.:cool:

Btw this is the Scuderia shield, the race team logo. SF = Scuderia Ferrari. ;)

Lotta mental gymnastics and word salad there just to talk about your base model 430.

Ferrari owners are a sensitive bunch, much like Ferrari themselves.

I was being facetious.

Let's recall original thread topic [although nonsensical as it is]
> M Sport package considered an "M" car?

Clearly thread intent is not 'unsplaining', weekend only whips. In most cases, Ferrari's best known for:
> "Drive on Sunday, Shop on Monday" :bellyroll

In fairness, personal experience with F430's...driven on several occasions and found it to be a fun, enjoyable model.
To-date, 430's generally considered one of the most reliable modern classic Ferrari's...although not saying much compared with equivalent 'period performance cars', since most 'Fxxx' models proven to be highly unreliable and uber expensive to maintain/repair.

That said, Ferrari banter here is...:offtopic:

Personally, I think BMW has ruined the ///M branding by adding these cars that aren't true ///M cars, like the M340i, M235i, etc...
it’s always had those though look at the e24 m635csi, e31 m850csi, or the 1m?

I've been facing a different kind of dilemma for the last couple of years. I absolutely do not consider my X1 XDRIVE28I with M SPORT pack to be an "M" car.(other than the cosmetic bits)

However, BMW's factory in Regensburg, Germany, "accidentally" put M fender badgers on my X1 due to the pandemic.... I've been pondering if I should take them off.

I asked in the "Fake Badges" thread.. https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32772603&postcount=5926

"
". These are "the cosmetic bits". You didn't put them on (in Regensburg they know what they are doing, probably), you shouldn't bother to take them off. :cool:

In Regensburg, Germany, they went that shameless long before the fake pandemic, somewhere about 2015, I guess: even if you chose "no badges" in the configurator that would have only removed/omitted the tail one, not these fender M Sport package ones. :lol: But I got my order before that time and I have no "///M" badges on the car's body. :happyanim:

They ain't fake, they only designate the "enthusiastic" package, like "maybe later". :D
