So I was watching a channel that shows a bunch of different gym fails and then the videos started to show these guys with fake muscles which are beyond cartoonish. Apparently, these guys have been injecting stuff into parts of their bodies to grow out the body part. I'm only running into this mess now but it seems it's been going on for quite some time.

I just don't get it. Some of these guys in discussing the origins of this obsession are clearly dealing with psychological issues. But I don't think all of them are having mental issues. I don't get how anyone sees this as even remotely attractive. Have any of you all been aware of this insanity?

You're referring to Syntherol,it's been popular in competitive bodybuilding since the mid-2000's. There's a detailed science behind it but I won't get into all of that..but basically,it's a site-enhancing oil that stretches the fascia tissue when injected directly into the muscle belly. It's primarily used for a lagging bodypart before a BBing contest and is temporary.

The original site enhancing compound was an Italian drug called Esiclene and it produced temporary swelling when injected into the muscle but was water based unlike Syntherol. Thats been around since the 80's but was never really popular and extremely hard to get.

I was cringing too much to watch the vids lol, people will do some crazy things to look good in their eyes. Personally I thinks its just ridiculous and looks absolutely dumb,I don't think any ladies are gonna look their way and say to themselves,"you look so hot, take me here&now"

Gregg Valentino was the 1st to achieve notoriety from site enhancing,I remember back in the day the guys on the BB'ing forums that Gregg was on would rip him to shreds lol...his arms "exploded" and that made news headlines all over smh

Believe me, I was cringing all the way through watching the videos. I agree with you that it's just ridiculous.

Apparently, this stuff has gone primetime as NIH has a publication on muscle degradation due to using this crap.

I only know one close friend who competed&used Synthrol and the amount of oil he was injecting(besides the oil from the AAS) on a weekly basis was mind boggling. He had some issues w super high cholesterol as a result(he wouldn't admit anything to his PCD though)so we only assumed it was from all the injections since he didn't tell his doc and he had no solid medical opinion as a result to support it. I mean, all that oil floating around your system can't be good for anyone.
Stupid is as stupid does

I’ve done two autopsies on men who have chronically used this and it was terrifying. Imagine a steak, cooked rare, but then mixed with paving concrete. Microscopically the muscle fibers are just obliterated and each section has sheets of granulomas (balls of scarring inflammation that never go away). Both also used anabolic steroids and had such profound heart disease I was shocked they made it as long as they did.

OT but are you saying anabolic steroids caused heart disease vs something else like a Keto type diet.

Muscle dysmorphia
Subtype of the obsessive mental disorder body dysmorphic disorder
Muscle dysmorphia is a subtype of the obsessive mental disorder body dysmorphic disorder, but is often also grouped with eating disorders. In muscle dysmorphia, which is sometimes called "bigorexia", "megarexia", or "reverse anorexia", the delusional or exaggerated belief is that one's own body is too small, too skinny, insufficiently muscular, or insufficiently lean, although in most cases, the individual's build is normal or even exceptionally large and muscular already. I don't even get the appeal of natural, hugely-muscled dudes, it's not to be a better fighter because yes we all need strength but there comes a pt where too much mass slows one down and makes one inflexible; and it's not to attract the ladies cuz they actually prefer mildly defined guys plus w even a bit of a tummy, not -surprisingly- the ripped guys we all see on tv/in the movies. So, this takes it to the crazy nasty extreme...they're not even real AND has dire health effects AND it's gonna be hilarious when some relatively 'puny' guy could beat the crap outta them lol. I don't get it at all. There has to be some sort of mental disorder there, how else can one explain that?

Pretty sure it is a form of body dysmorphia.
