Xbox + gamepass is a pretty killer deal to try lots of different games for a monthly fee.
PS5 has a bunch of exclusive games, and a similar program but don't have as a great monthly deal (imo).

Nintendo has their thing if you like those games.

If you have a decent windows desktop, gamepass is available there, just add a controller.

txs man, is Nintendo still around ?

I really like my PS5 but feel I had to put money into it to make it awesome. If you have any games, you can fill it up quickly and PS5 games really need the faster internal memory/storage. I also added an external drive for my PS4 games. Storage prices have come down some, so it isn’t as painful now.

thought I'd look at it another way

I paid $399 for my PS5. You don't really need to upgrade at least immediately. I also bought the digital version since I no longer own any discs to help save room and clutter in the house.

Memory and storage prices have really dropped. For example, I bought 1TB flash storage for my PS5 was almost $300. I can now get 2TB for $199. And I spent a few hundred on an external flash memory drive, but you can get 5TB for less than $100 and doesn't affect PS4 game performance.

hey txs for the reply... I'm actually leaning towards a Ps4 due to price, but please... and school me, I'm a bit lame at this.

My SNES had carts ? so the PS how do I get/buy the games, I kinda understand digital stores, but can't I buy a DVD ? if I get the digital store game, can I make a backup ?
and I guess that's why you need the storage.

I don't like keeping stuff on HD's headache to backup

Can I just get a DVD game, like go into a game store and buy a DVD

?

thanks

whats your thoughts on the 4 vs the 5

399 is "still" a wee bit high, I'm thinking between 2-3 c notes but am open at this stage,
my list of wants

* Quality of graphics and games
* connectability to my 4k
* want to connect the console to my DJ rig so put it through my PA :)
* Reliability
* Amount of games / popular games

I'm not a brand snob on games and don't have an allegiances

looking at the N switch, looks godawful so thats a big no for me

I would try to find a PS4 or Xbox one for the price point you're looking at. Games can be expensive nowadays, $50-90 cad. Would not look at older consoles, unless you're cool with retro, maybe 720p, no modern quality of life changes that newer games offer.

Both have a ton of games available, and have optical drives if you want to buy physical versions.

I'd recommend looking up available PS4/XBOX One games, seeing what you find most interesting and go that way.

If you're willing to buy used Games from GameStop or similar, you can save a few bucks that way.

The other thing I’ll add is getting PS Plus for $50 or whatever it costs per year gives you access to a lot of free games that you can keep. It’s kind of like Apple Music but for PlayStation.

I owned an XBox 1 for Forza but really felt that if you already have a PC, what’s the point of buying one.

Definitely. Buddy just sold his Xbox One on FaceBook last week for $85 I think. Deals are out there. Heck, I'd sell mine, but it's stashed away in the depths of a storage unit.

As far as future proof goes, the Xbox Series S and Game pass is imo the best deal under $500 if you want a variety of games. The fact that most new games come out on game pass at launch is really nice, and since you'll probably have to download most games the lack of a disk drive is no issue. Just may need to upgrade storage.
