Diirek, thanks for sharing this install and details. I have been following your thread for a while and I think this will be my next project. I am not much of a basshead and while HK sounds mostly fine, at times I have felt the need for a little added lower end so hopefully this sub, after breaking will suffice. My only condition, that I will check before installing is that the sub should fit inside the donut spare since I have one.

Thinking of going with Rockville V2 to keep costs down. I have a couple of questions.

1. Does the harness provide power to the sub?
2. Connectivity to sub with the sub harness looks easy enough but would you be able to show how you mated the harnesses together?
3.Did you go with low level inputs?
4. Any other tips or gotchas to watch out for?

Thanks!
No problem!

1. No - The sub needs a power source connected directly to the battery, just like an aftermarket amp install. I believe the rockville sub came with everything though. Comes with a power wire with inline fuse, ground wire and low level RCA cable.
2. Piece of cake - The technic harness intercepts the the factory harness at the amp and wires into the wavtech low level converter. This is also where the remote wire and RCA's connects to/from the amp/sub.
3. Yes
4. Not really - One of the easiest installs I've done. There's a remote to adjust gain, etc. that comes with the sub that you're supposed to run up front. I adjusted everything to my liking and tucked the controller in the trunk with everything else.

Awesome! And thank you for the pictures. I ve already ordered the sub and harness with LOC150. I may msg you again in case there are questions at the time of installation. Like you did, once I get everything dialed in, I plan to tuck away the remote in the trunk as well.

Q: is the blue wire in your 2nd last picture connected to main battery +ve terminal at the other end?

Thanks again for your detailed post!

Nope. The blue wire is the remote on switch and connects from the LOC150 to the remote on wire on the sub harness. It’s really easy to see when it’s all laid out in front of you.

2023 X5 G05 with Harman.
Got an "Audison APBX 10 AS2" Sub installed in the spare area:
https://audison.com/product/apbx-10-as2/

The Sub fits nicely under the trunk. I measured the Sub's response and I have a dip around 100Hz, but it does not affect the overall sound much.

The sound is really, really good. The Sub can really shake the car, but I don't have it turned up that much.

My complete upgrade looks like this:
- Audiotec Fisher Match UP 10 DSP
- 2 x Match UP BMW 8 Woofers (under the front seats)
- Audison APBX 10 AS2 Sub (in the trunk, spare tire area)

I see. And the black jacketed wire set next to the blue wire… did you jacket those? I got the harness (not the sub yet) and I don’t see that set in there…

For the most part I was able to figure out the connections looking at your pictures and comparing the harness but that black jacket wire set going to LOC has me confused:)

Edit: I notice that at the other end of that jacketed cable, you have the green/white speaker wires and red black power wires all going to the harness in the same white socket (3rd image, bottom connector on harness) - In my package I have two separate white sockets (White/Green and Red/Black) that perhaps need to be combined?

I didn't jacket anything - The kit came like that. Did your kit come with install instructions?

Kit? The Technic PNP harness or the kit with the subwoofer? I haven't received the subwoofer yet.

Here are the wires that I see on Rockville site that are included with the sub... (Still waiting for it)

and here is the Technic Harness I received. Notice the two black wires on the right? In your images they appear to be terminating in one white harness socket at one end..in my case they are two separate wire sets

I think I may have figured it out. I reached out to Technic via email and hope they respond quickly.

Your photographs really helped and I am glad I noticed this missing cable :)

Technic rarely responds to email. It could be over a week before they reply.
I would never use Rockville wire for my installs. You get CCA and very thin wires.
I bought two Rockville sub wire kits back in 2019. Looked at and it's fukno!
Cerwin Vega spare tire sub manual says if you use CCA (Copper clad aluminum) for power wires, your warranty is VOID!

Sub sounded so freaking great today with Linkin Park Metroa! Constantly tweaking with the remote. I think it's finally broken in.
From the outside, I can hear some vibrations from the gas cap door.
Also, just to the left of that I can vibrations inside the panel there.
I can't hear any of this from the inside. This X5 is so sound proof you can't hardly hear the sub from the outside. But, once you open a door or a tailgate, BOOM@
I can see speaker upgrades in my future. Amps. Not touching those under the front seats.

They responded promptly and exchanged multiple emails to explain that now they offer 2 wire solution like I received. For power to LOC red/black wires should be connected directly to sub’s amp/ car battery connection so RAM doesn’t get messed up. Fair enough

I have plenty of other heavy gauge wires left over from multiple home audio projects so not concerned.

On another note, I have a spare wheel in the back that’s just sitting there (not anchored). I didn’t see any hole under center of the wheel well carpet to screw down. Anyone knows if there is a nut under the carpet to anchor wheel/sub?

There’s a nut that integral to the subfloor for the spare. Pull up the carpet and you should see it. Had to open a small hole in the carpet to insert the threaded rod for the hold down bracket.

The wiring I received with the Rockville was braided copper. No issues here.

I bought two of these kits 5-6 years ago. Never returned them
https://www.amazon.com/Rockville-RWK81-Complete-Installation-Copper/dp/B019Z3RAUU/

Everything in that kit is abysmal quality. Never seen anything like it. You can see the aluminum in the power wires when you cut them. These are braided. They say the RCA wires are 100% copper. But they say a lot of things that are lies on that Amazon page above.

The blue wires have a thick jacket and a very thin wire inside.
The Wire Ties, Ring Terminals, Butt Connectors, Spades, are the lowest quality I have ever seen!

Completed the install of the Rockville amp last night. Wiring was all straightforward and took barely 20 mins, thanks to Diirek's user avatarDiirek for posting images! I ran into an issue where the amp or the LOC wouldn't power up so had to get my multimeter out to test wires. It turns out that the 1amp fuse in the Technic harness was bad (although visual inspection did not show any issues). Jumped it for now using a single strand of wire and ordered a bunch spares on Amazon.

The amp sounds pretty decent without breaking in - I have kept it at low gain to break it in over the next few days and tuned it using some songs. Once its settled I will tune it properly using Sound Pressure Meter and test tones.

The sound is continuously getting better as it breaks in - tighter. How did you guys tune yours? What' your cross over at ? For now mine is set to around 80Hz , gain at 11 o'clock, phase 0 and no bass boost. I lowered the eq in the head unit for anything below 100Hz to 0.

How has it been now that you have had it for awhile? Are you still using the Rockville? I am interested in going this route as I would like just a little more bass but keep things stock looking.

You could get a simple RTA app, and make some measurements. With that you could check if the Sub is in phase, or out of phase. You could move around the XO, and see how you get better summer on the low end.

Somebody in another post suggested "AudioTools app for iOS" as a relatively cheap measuring app, that could be used for simple adjustments.
