…as it applies to investigations, why wouldn’t you want to help law enforcement solve a case? If it were your family member, you’d want the community to help too.
I don't have much to do with the law, but when it has happened it seems more about dept collecting and ego rather than policing.
I gave my dash cam to traffic in regards to an accident. Thought I was being agood citizen helping ol mate do his job. Spite all that contributed to it happening ol mate tells me there are no accidents any, more just incidents, and hands me a $500 fine.
Then the other day traffic cop again, does a random breath test for alcohol. Gives me the run down, then askes me to pull the plastic wrapper off the disposable tube so I'm holding the wrapper. I do test, then he askes me to remove the tube and says have a nice day.
Another random breathalyzer, 3 lanes, outside for through traffic, middle for brethos, inside for squad cars. Got the place lit up like a christmas tree with blinding flashing lights, and ol mate waves the car in front into the middle lane and ignores me. So I take the through lane. Well didn't that upset ol mates day. $185 fine in front of the stunned wife kids for disobeying a direction.
Traffic police largely bring it on themselves. They see the community as trash, so its easy to have no respect for them. And when governance is breathing down their necks for revenue and quotas its the community that pays, not the cop and his job. I know this as I have a cousin in another department of police. You can pull what if its was your family stuff, but in Australia and my 55 years, if your law abiding not much happens. If your not involved in crime then crime tends not to follow you. We have a good welfare system and no guns, so its pretty subdued really.
Our road toll has remained 1200 a year for decade, but police and governance keep banging on about getting tuff on road users, mean while revenue has increase 3 times from road offences. Its nothing against you personally, its governance and lack of ideas from police. There is no support for kids or car enthusiast to do skids, rather what was got closed down. No encouragement for advanced driver training, no acknowledgement slow cars are just as dangerous as fast, but speed kills but frustrated driver doing a suicidal overtaking maneuver is just their fault. All good to not indicate, but try driving a 50T truck for a day and see how much fun your having because ol mate is too selfish to indicate, when I crush him however it will be his fault I can promise you.
Its just more control, more fines, more regulation and cars with cameras capturing everything allows more control to happen.
