The car has been ordered: X6 M60 Isle of Man Green / Tacora Red.

The dealer is trying to convince the factory to install M Performance exhaust an an option at the VPC.

However, I am looking for aftermarket exhaust recommend. The target profile: Akrapovic but I don’t see G06 compatibility on Akrapovic website.

CA compliant is a must. Live in CA of course.

All feedback welcome!

There are many threads here related to exhaust. To date I have not seen a workable solution for the S68 engine. From the intro of the engine "The S68 is the only current production V8 engine offered with a cross-pattern exhaust manifold for improved turbo charger pressure by combining exhaust pulses which comes at an expense of sound alternation" Source: Wikipedia

As M60i owners we aren’t too spoiled when it comes to aftermarket exhaust choices. Sadly. My guess is that BMW really messed up this powertrain with the fancy manifold design, and on top of that clogged it up with so many environmental protection gadgets that it barely makes any sound at all… worst part is the European version (I happen to have one) sounds like a 4-pot diesel, mainly due to the extra OPF, which you don’t have in many other geographies. Pisses me off, tbh

I spoke to a bunch of distributors here in Poland, and they say companies struggle to invent anything to give this car a proper V8 sound. A few have taken up the challenge, though. There’s the dÄhler (Swiss), there’s Supersprint (Italian), there’s IRL LLC (American)

A bunch of companies are working on theirs (Valvetronic, for instance)

There are some Alibaba options from China (if you’re courageous enough)

Akrapovic doesn’t have one, and when I asked them, their response was not that far away from showing me the middle finger. Won’t buy anything from them ever. Period

There’s a Valvetronic thread on the forum - for guys considering a group buy

Happy hunting!

Super comprehensive and super helpful. Thank you.

I am researching dAhler as we speak. Will also review Valvetronic group buy thread.

I re-read your post, and found I missed the bolded bit. What exhaust is that? Can you ask the dealer to provide some more detail or BMW product number? Last time I checked (mid-Dec), no M Performance exhaust was available for the M60i models (neither Germany, nor Poland)

Thanks!

I just received a response from another BMW dealer. US-spec M Performance exhaust is not compatible with X6 M60. Oh well.

Just received an update from www.kiesmotorsports.com.

"Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the dAHLer Exhaust System for the BMW M60i X5 X6 - Stage 1. We appreciate your interest in our products.

I wanted to let you know that these exhaust systems are currently in production and are expected to be back in stock by March. We recommend keeping an eye on our website for updates or feel free to reach out to us closer to that time for more information."

Fingers crossed. From what I heard on YT, the dAhler setup does a very decent job on US-spec cars (I.e., no OPF)

And also thanks for confirming the exhaust availability/ applicability with your dealer. I had a tiny bit of hope there… :sigh:

Sharing another updates from Kies Motorsports about the installation of Dahler exhaust.

"Regarding the installation of the dAHLer exhaust system on the X6 M60, you are correct that some modifications may be necessary. The installation typically requires adding washers under the rear bracing arms to accommodate the size of the new exhaust. Additionally, there might be a need to slightly bend the rear bracing arms to ensure a proper fit, as the new exhaust is slightly larger.

If you have any further questions or need assistance during the installation process, please feel free to reach out. We're here to help ensure you have a smooth experience with your new exhaust system."

Does all of this present the potential for warranty issues??

That's the $64K question. The bending part is one that concerns me. Additional washers could mean that a different, perhaps longer and stronger bolt would be required. To be investigated further.

I did catless secondary downpipes and there's practically no difference. There's more of a howl under throttle but outside the car, no one can tell I have done anything and why I have not made a video. I am debating of deleting the stock resonator and adding a x pipe.

i second that. i did the catless secondary downpipes and there's practically no difference. There is more noise... but nothing that makes it sound like a V8. Definitely no rumble.

2025 M60i has no exhaust options? M Performance Pro won't fix like it does on the 40i?

I just installed the Valvetronic exhaust and like it a lot. It isn’t over the top. Very nice overrun and pops. Slight bit of drone at certain rpm’s and gears but not bad - wife has not even commented on it and she wasn’t even aware it was going on. Very it with flaps closed using valvetronic controller.

Nice! May I ask how much you paid for the installation?

Reach out to GT haus/Meisterschaft here in Illinois. They have some sick sounding exhausts. I have one on my 2023 m550.
They said they have an option for the g05/g06 m60i.

I installed RedStar secondary downpipes today for my X5 m60i. Installation took about 1 hour, everything fits bolt on.
First of all, before ordering downpipes, I was pretty disappointed with the sound and Iconic Sound feature. I am coming from G63 and can confirm stock M60i doesn't have any sound at all and Iconic Sound feature is just a JOKE, however it is a reality nowadays. I test drove M5 G90 and it has all this Iconic Sound stuff to including artificial burble.

So what can I say after installing ONLY secondary downpipes. Sound increase is like 10% and you can finally hear some engine sound without Iconic Sounds feature. So there is finally SOME REAL sound. It reminds me of a very muted F90 sound.

I will keep this since i don't want to go fully downpipe or cut the resonator. Maybe if some legit exhaust system come up, I will install it. I do not like valvetronic or dahler garage solutions since the car is pretty expensive and overall it is good.

Have you considered the exhaust system from GT HAUS?

Do you have a video with the secondary DPs installed? Do you also have a valve controller?
