The person I talk to owned a BMW and was quite aware of the situation and did say they are quite expensive and yes, they are covered. I can look up another file that we have paid for.

The contract is the contract, and when a claim comes it, the contract is what is referenced. Another tell tale sign is the BMW CPO coverage does not cover the housings either.

As far as the laser lights are concerned, only the modules for the turn signal and DRL's can be replaced and are covered. The LED/lasers are in a unit that can't be serviced and needs to be replaced. Those are not covered by any VSC out there that I now of.

Since you work for a California BMW dealer (Camarillo), could you provide clarity about California residents buying extended warranties from in-state vs out-of-state BMW dealers? In other threads in this forum, there have been comments that (because of the California consumer protection laws), California residents must buy VSCs from California (at least licensed) dealers. If I recall correctly, you stated that we could purchase them from any US dealer. If correct, are there nevertheless advantages, such as in enforceability, for a California resident to buy from a California dealer? Thank you!

Would love to hear confirmation of that from GOLFFRR or another rep.
Vos wroteWelcome to the forum. What is your definition of each? Or are you referring to when the coverage starts? From what I've heard (from non-California BMW reps), non-CA dealers can sell the BMW VSCs to CA residents as an addon plan instead of in-service plan.

Is the BMW Platinum transferable? If you sell the vehicle can you get the prorated amount back?
Jeepin Jason wroteThe BMW Platinum is transferable for a small fee to a private buyer. The owner of the extended warranty must initiate the transfer. It is not transferable if you trade it in at a dealer or sell it to someone like Carmax.Really confused on which way to go here. I am between the BMW Platinum and the GWC Warranty/Easy Care Platinum VSC for my low mileage X5.

If you sell your car you can get a prorated refund minus any claims they have paid out.
Timmer-Bimmer wroteThis is pretty standard form all legitimate coverage providers. Jeepin Jason wroteSince your comparison shopping between 3rd party plans and Bmw VSC, I would definitely also get a quote on the Fidelity Platinum plan and compare the cost of that to the Bmw VSC & to the Gwc plan. I was surprised at how much of a price difference there was between them. Since you have Low miles, it should be on the lower end as far as cost.Really confused on which way to go here. All of these are transferable to a third private party and all of them you can get a prorated refund if you need to cancel. Just read the specific terms on all of them for the fine print, etc. I received a quote for 11 years of total coverage Through Fidelity Platinum on a newer M60i for under $6K which was a fantastic price(If a longer plan is needed). So just do your due diligence as a consumer.
TurtleBoy wroteThanks --Welcome to the forum. What is your definition of each? Or are you referring to when the coverage starts?
Addon - Coverage start date/milage begins at date of contract signing
(additional X years, Y miles from today - understanding effective date/milage is likely less due to BMW's 4 year/50k mile warranty)
In-service - Coverage start date/milage begins at the in-service date of the vehicle
(total years, and miles from when the vehicle was initially sold)
Is it correct that the extended warranty won’t show there? If something happens after the new car warranty expires, do I simply show the contract? Does BMW have this info on some back end profile for my car not visible to me?
Looking to understand this now and not in four+ years should something happen then.
AnalogDreams wroteThat is correct, they no longer show in MyGarage. Dealers should be able to see it and I always recommend calling Safe-Guard to verify the coverage.I bought a BMW VSC plan for my new X5 but the extended warranty isn’t showing in My Garage for my car. I was told this is normal and it won’t show there. But my scheduled maintenance extended plan does show there. So in my mind this doesn’t make sense.

My 0.02, one is better off inquiring with their servicing BMW dealer as the coverage is visible to them via ‘Key Data’, under ‘Service Contracts’

AnalogDreams wroteI tell all of our customers to just keep a copy of the contract with them in the vehicle glove box. The first page, the cover sheet, is really all the service department needs to get things moving. It will be the same procedure with all legitimate coverage. If something happens after the new car warranty expires, do I simply show the contract?

Decided to keep it for at least another year .....about to roll out of warranty.
Thinking and not thinking about extended VSC. What BMW is ever happy once out of warranty.....
Haven't had any major repairs although the most recent one.....they did end up replacing a module on the rear strut . A quick lookup of the part was at least 1K. I did even account:add in what -diagnoistgic fee, programming time of said module-, and the sensor they replaced would might have entailed if this was OOP as a final repair. I'm sure Murphy law will strike and transfer case will start showing issues 3 months out of warranty. Then freon due to a leak in the evaporator. And or what I believe is my HOT V drinking the Green Kool Aid.....but strangely since the last visit 9 months ago (in which nothing was fixed but they topped it off-overfilled beyond the max fill line), it doesn't appear to have dropped or lost any coolant since that visit. $ for $ when we discuss repairs like above, my trusted Indy would probably cost the same or potentially more for the repair...
