chefwong's user avatarchefwong I’d roll the dice if you plan to keep it for only a year assuming all service has been done incl transfer case fluid change if it’s Xdrive. Weigh the cost of a warranty vs any repairs you might encounter.

I've had the people at the 1-800 number proved all sorts of wrong information, even as simple as, "we don't cover BMWs...", which obviously isn't true. Like I said, modules are covered, the housings are not.

The contract is the contract, and when a claim comes it, the contract is what is referenced. Another tell tale sign is the BMW CPO coverage does not cover the housings either.

Trenton. I'm revisiting this thread but I recall in an older discussion, maybe this thread possibly, you did state the headlights were covered. Unless I mis-read that post, but maybe it was something more along the lines of how it was -worded- or should be worded when the repair facility calls in for authrization. And or maybe it was your replying stating the struts were covered.....which I thought was odd as to me, a strut is a -wear- item

Re-visiting the thread
Decided to keep it for at least another year .....about to roll out of warranty.
Thinking and not thinking about extended VSC. What BMW is ever happy once out of warranty.....

Haven't had any major repairs although the most recent one.....they did end up replacing a module on the rear strut . A quick lookup of the part was at least 1K. I did even account:add in what -diagnoistgic fee, programming time of said module-, and the sensor they replaced would might have entailed if this was OOP as a final repair. I'm sure Murphy law will strike and transfer case will start showing issues 3 months out of warranty. Then freon due to a leak in the evaporator. And or what I believe is my HOT V drinking the Green Kool Aid.....but strangely since the last visit 9 months ago (in which nothing was fixed but they topped it off-overfilled beyond the max fill line), it doesn't appear to have dropped or lost any coolant since that visit. $ for $ when we discuss repairs like above, my trusted Indy would probably cost the same or potentially more for the repair...
You sound like what I was thinking a few months ago I think you know the solution if you're thinking about these things and the cost you know what to do extended warranty

You must have mis-read, I have never been under the impression nor would I express impression the headlights would be covered and replaced. Here are 4 posts from me saying the exact opposite...

Air suspension and electronically adjustable suspension ARE covered under our Platinum coverage offerings, so you may just be a little mixed up on the components being mentioned covered under the coverage.

Correct, and this is the same with all OEM branded coverage and top tier extended warranty coverage.

Below is the wording from BMW Platinum VSC, Page 5 Paragraph P: UNDER THE PLATINUM COVERAGE PLAN, ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS AND/OR SERVICES: GLASS, LENSES, SEALED BEAMS, BODY PARTS AND/ OR PANELS, LIGHTS, LASER LIGHTING, FUSES, BULBS -INCANDESCENT, XENON AND LEDS, BULBS...

Great call out, this is the number one thing I tell people reaching out when they ask, "what should I know about the warranty coverage?", I tell them anything do with the headlight or tail light units will not be covered under the extended warranty coverage, it don't matter who the coverage is through. Electronic control modules and computers for the lights are covered, but anything in the housing units themselves will not be replaced do to their exterior-ness on the vehicle and susceptibility to external forces.

Depending on the cause and your traditional comprehensive insurance, replacement of the headlight units may be covered for those who need it there.
