After 6 months (and 2k miles), I figured it was time to introduce myself and my X5. Been a lurker here for a while with a few posts here and there (mostly in the ordering/pricing subforum), and finally pulled the trigger on my order in early 2025, with the car arriving in April as one of the very last MY25s.
I've been in the BMW world for a while, having an E46 M3 for many years, and then my E90 M3 for a while longer. But this is our first X5. It replaced an Infiniti QX70S, which, while funny looking, was actually a great car - perfect blend of sportiness and SUV comfort, fun character, nice tech, and super reliable. Had that car for 10 years from new with no issues, and now it'll hopefully go 10 more with my brother's family.
The X5 is my family's car, but we don't drive much. My wife and I work from home, so it's primarily just used for school runs and local errands, occasional family trips, and the like. Hence the low miles. But we split use of it, saving my M3 for fun runs. Thus, I overruled her vote for an XC90 ... and now she finally sees why.

My hunt started for a 50e, since they seemed perfect on paper. The EV range would cover 99% of our driving, I have a solar system on the roof already, the price difference was negligible while the combined power was attractive. But the 2024 issues concerned me, and we intend to keep this car for a while. Thus, I went with the tried and true 40i with just the B58. At first I wish I went with the M60i, but I've come to like the duality of this car - buttery smooth and quiet for my wife, but well composed and quick enough for me in sport mode, while keeping the M3 feeling special. So far we are both very happy with the car and our build.
Specifications:

No Executive, M Sport Pro, or DAPP (or massagers, trailer hitch).
I'd like the glass controls, but couldn't care less about the other options in the Executive Package. I went back and forth on the M Sport Pro, but ultimately we didn't like the blacked out look on the LCIs. We couldn't care less about DAPP stuff, and it doesn't fit our use case (no traffic/commutes, not many long road trips). We've had ACC for 10+ years and haven't used it once. I like to drive and don't see the appeal of a little automated help, but understand I'm in the minority here and for most it seems like a must-have; no regrets yet and I don't care about resale concerns.
Since picking it up, I gave it a break-in oil change (not prescribed, but feels good given long term intentions), swapped the brake pads for Brembo NAO ceramics, had XPEL XR70 installed all around, and added modest Dinan wheel spacers, a MY24 dead pedal, Thule Edge crossbars, OE A/S mats, the optional welcome lights, etc. In time I will replace the Pirellis with Hankook Evo S1 ASXs and may consider some mild Dinan engine treatment if they ever release things for this B58TU2 application.
