I'm looking for walking shoes that don't look like athletic shoes. Something like the pic below. I'm not necessarily looking for SAS shoes, but this is basically what I want in a shoe. Something I can wear with most pants and still use for walking. Any suggestions? I accept that really good shoes are going to be pricey, so that's not an issue.

Check out Mephisto, it’s a little hit or miss on how much old man style you’re getting but they’re all super comfortable and last a while.

For years now I have shopped outdoor shops for general purpose/walking shoes. Some call them approach shoes but really they are just outdoor walking shoes. They tend to be extremely durable and goretex lined for water proofness, but double as casual dressy and very comfortable. Cost similar to mainstream sports star garbage but last 4 times longer.

My last set hear because they are a wide fit for my fat foot.

I had a pair of Mephistos when I was stationed in Germany. I loved them. They lasted years. I'll look into them again.

So are you looking for something work appropriate that you can go walking in? Trying to understand your want....

I'm retired, so no work. :-) But I'd like something I can wear with khakis when we go out to eat or whatever. I just don't want an athletic type shoe. I ended up ordering the SAS shoes from my first post. Hopefully they work out ok.

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Hope your new shoes work out for you.

Late to the thread, sorry! I walk (and run) in my NB 1080s, 99% of the time on pavement. I have a pair of Sportiva “hiking shoes” for when I plan to be on rocks, roots and mud/sand/dirt. Not your use case! :)

As you probably saw in the other thread, I bought a pair of NB 1080s for walking. I also ordered the shoes I posted at the top of this thread for every day use. Those arrive today. I'm hoping they fit well. I wish I could find a normal shoe store like the running shoe store we went to. Super helpful sales staff there.

I recently went in a new direction and bought 2 pairs of Earthing Harmony grounding shoes. Very minimalist. Flat soles with a gimmicky brass plug at the ball of the foot. Penny loafers, but very wide and stretch even further as you wear them.
Still getting used to the idea of shoes with no socks, hasn't really cooled off enough to know if these will work in BRUTAL California winters.

I just searched these......

Color me extremely skeptical.

The grounding claim aside, the details about the minimalist support and natural motion of walking all seem to be true.

I tell you this: if you are walking down the street and step on a pebble, you WILL know. Not quite Lego-level event, but the center of the heel is especially painful.
