I have now found multiple instances where a user has appreciated my posts, but when I click on the notification, and I am taken to my post, there is no appreciation recorded.

I found this happened today on two of my posts by the same user.

The cause? There are two:

1. If you accidentally double *tap or click the appreciate link, it adds then subtracts the appreciation that was just attributed.

2. If you want to look at who else has appreciated a post, it is too easy to accidentally *tap or click on the attribute link and thereby accidentally either appreciate or UN-appreciate a post.

This has happened to me as a user myself on others’ posts - and numerous times if I am not careful.

I am attaching a screenshot showing this in my reputation history. I have NUMEROUS examples of this in my history. Shame, because I would have had more rep for my efforts here by now.

apptest's user avatarapptest FYI - a delay in the UI after someone clicks on appreciate would avoid the double click issue, and a physical separation of, and widening of the posts appreciation count would solve for #2.

Thank you

I appreciate your post :-)

Can it also be that the person misclicked and appreciated the post by accident and simply unappreciated it to correct the mistake? Ive done that in the past

apptest's user avatarapptest thank you for your response.

Using that rationalization, then as seen in the screenshot I attached, the same user changed their mind back-to-back on two distinctly separate posts, in separate threads?

As I indicated in my post above, I have done so myself, but as a software architect with roughly thirty years of experience, I noticed what was happening, and I’ve gotten tired of it happening to me.

Not because I double tap (even though that has happened accidentally to me as well), but for reason #2 - because in the app, it is hard to tap the appreciation count to see who else appreciated it.

Try double tapping in the app and experience what others may be unknowdingly doing themselves.

I know when a user interface and experience may need some improvement so I decided to report it. Another user replied to my first post in this thread, and appears grateful someone raised this.

Thank you again for your consideration.

Wait, do we win a toaster or something if we get the most reputation points?

apptest's user avatarapptest it just happened again to yet another user. Both +1’s and the -1 are for the same post.

They realized what happened a shortly thereafter re-appreciated it when they went to reply to my post.

FWIW, another forum that I'm a member of has a 10-second delay between processing repeat presses of their reaction score link, which prevents button "bounce" like this.....

This what I was proposing, but this behavior does not appear to be a concern for the admins here.

Additionally, I believe it would be helpful if the Appeciate link was only highlighted in the app and the web interface, when the user themselves has liked/appeciated a post. The count would illuminate separately.

This would help to easily identify if you, yourself have appreciated, as I found myself accidentally unappreciating, and re-appreciating posts I had previously appreciated.

:thanks:
