Pilgrim wroteWhat is your use case? Round trip to and from work within elec range? Charging available at work? L2 charger in the garage? Bottom line is that if most of your driving is short trips within Elec range the hybrid may be for you. I'm personally a ICE guy 100%I will be replacing my 2024 X6 with a new 2027 X5 when the G65 is released later this year. I have been pondering whether to get the PHEV or stay with the gas model. I heard that the PHEV has a reduced cargo space. Are there other cons to getting the hybrid or major pros?
Usage wise PHEV only make sense if usage is electricity vs gas usage is kind of 50/50. If you end up using EDrive 90% of the time, you are better off with a EV. If gas usage is 90% of the time, then 40i will make more sense.
Pilgrim wroteIf you don’t charge the x5 at all, you use it as non plug in hybrid, MPG will be lower than 40i. BMW EPA states that. My experience with 45e match.LDT and eenoraa, your thoughts regarding usage are well considered. My usage is more like 60/40 with long drives being the most. I've never had an EV. And, while I like the thought of not using gas for the shorter trips, I'm concerned that gas mileage would not be the same for a hybrid. Is that an issue with the PHEV?
Now if you charge a PHEV, then mpg has no meaning. You are putting 2 forms of energy into the car. You can get infinite mpg if you start with a full charge and drive less than 40 miles. The efficiency merit for PHEV is $/mile. That lead to the question about your electricity cost.
There is an acceleration difference noticeably. There is minimal lag. I can shut off the EV mode anytime… it does get slightly worse, gas mileage because of the heavier weight. If you’re not going to bother, plugging it in then it’s a no-brainer…. But I think the extra operators have come with it we’re worth it for my needs. (Also paying an extra 8K, but include some additional features)
50 E comes with air suspension, which is phenomenal For me I needed something that’s fast but extremely comfortable because my wife throws up anytime she’s not driving any type of vehicle. This is one of the first times that she was OK for an hour straight sitting in the backseat.
For comparison/contrxt, I had a 310hp 2010 TSX. I loved its sound and it was rock solid reliable. After driving my 50 E for 2000 miles and only two gas fillups…. I do miss the sound if you’re coming from a X6 that’s something to consider.
AP447 wroteWait, 2020 Acura TSX and 310hp? Are you sure? I had one, it isn’t that power number. Super reliable, well balanced car, super great manual gear box. Also, there is noticeably a sound difference, obviously. The vehicle on full charge for automatically be in EV mode, which is more than enough power typically however often I’ll just throw it in the sport mode so I hear the i6 twin turbo engine sounds.

eelnoraa wroteIt was a v6 with minor addons. I think it was 280hp oem. They didn’t make a lot of the and stopped selling the v6 shortly afterwards.Wait, 2020 Acura TSX and 310hp? Are you sure? I had one, it isn’t that power number. Super reliable, well balanced car, super great manual gear box.
FWD so HP didn’t really matter cuz it’ll just slide for a bit
