24 X5MC.

So, that button in front of the auto hi-beam one in the center console with an exhaust icon. By some accounts it opens/closes exhaust valves. By other accounts it pipes in artificial engine sounds into the cabin. Maybe it does both.

What’s the reality? I haven’t been able to tell.

It has effect on both and in coordination with engine comfort/sport/sport+ setting. Also, the butterfly valve position is variable not binary.

I cannot answer for the LCI, but in my 2023 X5MC my observation is the button controls artificial exhaust sound input to the cabin only and is on by default but can be turned off permanently in M1 and M2 modes.
The exhaust flaps, at least in the pre LCI, are binary- either fully open or fully closed.

Agreed. I have LCI and as far as I know it's purely an artificially pumped exhaust audio into the cabin. You can tell this further by just pressing the button on and off during driving and hearing the audio change drastically. Interior exhaust sounds do get more aggressive sounding on Sport/Sport+ mode. It even mimics burples at certain speeds.

Valves do naturally open based on RPMs to my knowledge. Once you approach 4K and above it opens up.

The button also enables the ‘loud start’ or turns it off. If the car is warm and the button is illuminated, it’ll do the loud thing (high revs).

Real or fake, don’t know. What is real is the lost of MPG. :character0229:

Can you confirm this with a 2024+ model?

Is this on pre-LCI, post-LCI, both, or not sure?

Post for sure. Not sure on pre.

My 25 has catless secondaries and a valve controller installed, with valves always open fully.

How does it sound compared to stock? Significantly louder? Thanks.

Definitely sounds better and is louder. Cold start and warm ‘loud start’ are a good bit louder. Regular driving it’s still pretty tame.

Is it transformative? Nah. Better? Oh yeah. Is it enough? Probably not…if I were going to hang onto it I’d probably get the dinan midpipe and axel back as well.
