Hi everyone,

My wife and I are planning to get a BMW X5 xDrive50e. While I was out of town, she visited a local dealership and the salesperson pressured her into placing an order. Fortunately, she didn’t put down a deposit, and the salesperson told her that her credit file was sufficient to place the order.

She didn’t sign any financing paperwork, the only thing she signed was the order sheet.

After I got back, I found a much better deal through a broker, and we’d prefer to move forward with that instead. The vehicle she ordered is apparently already in production.

Since we didn’t leave a deposit and haven’t signed any binding finance documents, I’m assuming we’re not obligated to purchase the car and should be able to cancel the order, but I’d like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Are we able to cancel at this stage without any issues?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. You are never obligated to purchase it. If you left a deposit then the most that would happen is that you would lose that. Since your wife didn't just let them know you longer want the vehicle.

In a lot of states your deposit can't even be held. In PA most dealers don't even take deposits as they will have to refund them anyway, if ask.

PS. that Salesman epitomizes why car salesmen have such a terrible reputation.

Can't pass up the opportunity to drop a Joe Isuzu commercial :D
