I'm looking to do the same to take it off and paint it. I'm wondering if you can get a pry tool starting from the bottom and pop it off.did you try to pry off?

I've seen different models where you seemingly have to remove the entire panel, like the black part, and then the silver part unclips. Havent tried prying it, I wouldnt want to break a clip or anything. I'll probably just end up painting it on the car. I did this with the exhaust pipe trim and it came out pretty well. Just need to make sure to tape off the surrounding area and then use painters plastic to cover the larger areas of the car.
