Question for G05 X5 owners.

On my previous 2021 X3 xDrive30i, tinting the front driver and passenger windows affected the auto-dimming of the instrument cluster and iDrive screen. During the day the cabin became darker and the cluster would dim too much, making it harder to see.

Now I have a 2020 BMW X5 M50i and I’m considering tinting only the front driver and passenger windows again.

For those who have tinted the front windows on a G05 X5:

• Did it affect the auto brightness of the instrument cluster or iDrive screen?
• What tint percentage did you choose?
• Is there a percentage that doesn’t interfere with the light sensor?

Just trying to avoid the same issue I had on the X3.

Thanks!

The issue persists on my 2023 M50i. My tints came from the dealership already installed, but would have to guess it's within the 20-35% range.

As soon as i crack open my driver window, the instrument cluster and screen immediately brighten up. On rainy/overcast days it is especially bad, to the point where I don't think it's safe when trying to review information.

I am new to BMW, and basically have been in honeymoon phase and loving everything about the car except this aspect. It kind of baffles me that the light sensor is so aggressive it cannot account for tints...never had this problem on any other cars.

I believe there is a workaround to trick the system via Bimmercode...but haven't triet it yet. Also don't know if it's the perfect solution, as you will lose variable adjusting of the brightness. I think you are forced to select one set brightness level.

This fixed the issue for me...

When I tinted the front windows on my 2022 X5 (G05), I had the same problem with dim dash and control screens during the day. Using BimmerCode, I made the following code changes with very acceptable results:

Headunit - 3005 APIX_CID_UND_ZIN - DIM_CURVE_X2 – change values to 0x00, 0x00 (from 0x1F, 0xC0)

Instrument cluster - 3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration – DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE – change value to aktiv

Instrument cluster - 3005 FuBi_Parameter – DIM_DTN – change value to 0x7F (from 0x3F)

After programming the codes above, go to Car/Settings/Displays/Control display and change the “Brightness at night” to it’s lowest value. Then use the standard I.P. scroll wheel to set a comfortable light level in darkness.

These changes have made driving my BMW much more pleasant, without having to glue a tiny light to my dash.

If any of you would like to try these settings on yours as well, then report back with the results, I would be very interested in your experience, and probably others here as well.

Hope this helps, everyone....
