Hey guys I just got finished doing ambient air retrofit. I was able to source a kit from alibaba for ~$350 shipped instead of the usual $700-$1000. The kit delivered fast and the ionizer module was OEM BMW but the air freshener module looked like it might have been refurbished. The quality of the wiring harness was excellent. The seller was super helpful during the installation process. I was also able to do the install in less than 2 hours with no dash uninstall. Hope this helps anyone interested in doing this.

Tools needed:
T20 torx screw
Phillips screw driver
Splicing tool
Fine flat head screw driver (for depinning and opening connectors)
Trim tool kit
10mm socket wrench (to remove ground nut)

Materials needed:
Double sided tape

Instructions:
De-energize car
Pop out trim on the right end of the dash board
Remove 2 T20 torx screws holding the vent/dash trim
Pop out instrument cluster bezel using trim tool kit
Remove 1 T20 torx screw holding the vent/dash trim
Pop out the vent/dash trim
Pop out the center speaker cover (this required a lot of maneuvering and a lot of force to pop out the first detents). Once the first detent was out the rest were much easier.
Remove right footwell cover by turning two detents 90 degrees then pulling down on the cover.
Disconnect the footwell light connector and detent holding wire harness to the cover.
Remove the right door sill trim by popping it out and disconnecting it.
Remove the kick panel/trim of the right passenger footwell. This is held in place by 2 detents and pops out if you apply force towards the center console.
Open glove box and remove all visible screws.
Remove the two trim pieces on each side where the glove box door locks. There are 2 more T20 Torx screws in that area.
There are two white cylinder like joints at the bottom of the glove box door. Push those in towards the center of the glove box. Bottom part of door should be free once these are removed. Pop the guiding detent holding the left side of the door into the glove box. Slightly pull out the glove box lining starting at the top. Disconnect glove box light and loosen any wire harnesses attached to the top of the glove box lining. Disconnect the glove box light switch which is attached to the guiding detent holding the right side of the door into the glovebox. Remove the glove box switch on the right side of the door. Slide the front end of it up to detach it from the door guiding detent then turn the back end of it about 30 degrees clockwise and that should release it from the glovebox lining. You can now completely slide out the glovebox lining. Transfer the lower door joint from the old glovebox lining to the one that comes with the kit. Transfer the glovebox light to the glovebox lining that comes with the kit.
Transfer the glovebox switch to the lining that comes with the kit.
On the left hand side where the glovebox used to be the air conditioner control module should be visible. Slide it down and out. Attach ionizer control module to it then slide it back in place. Run the wires from the ionizer control module to the center vents and double side tape the ionizers to the inside of the vents. Normally you would drill holes to attach the ionizer emitters or remove the entire dash and replace the vent ducts with ones that have pre-drilled holes. The vent ducts have lots of foam at the joint so they are still able to seal around the ionizer wires. Based on how the ionizers work I figured that double side taping them to the inside of the vent will still accomplish the job without added cost or labor. Reinstall vent/dash trim.

Install the air freshener bracket that comes with the kit on the new glovebox lining using a single Phillips screw that comes withe kit. Feed the air freshener tube from the center speaker area and into the area behind the glovebox using a fish stick. You can reinstall the center speaker cover at this point.
Reinstall the new glovebox lining using all the screws you previously removed some of which will now hold the air freshener bracket in place. Feed the scent tube through the bracket. On the air freshener use the selector to choose whether you have a car with ID6,7,8 or ID 8.5. Plug the connector for the air freshener. Install the air freshener into the bracket making sure the scent tube connects at the blower motor. The air freshener is held in place using 2 detents and a single Philips screw that comes with the kit. Install the trim that surrounds the air freshener. Re-install glovebox door.

For wiring the kit already comes with an add a fuse. Connect that to any open switched fuse on in your right front power distribution box. I used slot F72 which was open in my case. The ground screw is in the bottom right area of the footwell. Loosen the nut insert the ground wire and tighten again. Finally disconnect BDC 7B remove pins 33 and 34. Insert pins on the kit wire harness as labeled. Close up the right footwell.

I also bought a cartridge chip reset tool and cotton pads for ~$50 so I can have unlimited cheap refills of the cartridge with whichever essential oil I want.

I also have a pdf from seller with installation instructions which was helpful but I can’t seem to attach it.

It’s super easy and straight forward. Go for it and I can help if anything comes up.
It works just like factory. It’s a bit weak but I think the cartridges they sent with the kit were a little dry. I attached some more pics.
