It was five years today that we said good by to an amazing woman who taught us all what a zest for life looks like.

Sabine Schmitz (1969–2021) was a legendary German racing driver known as the "Queen of the Nürburgring," famous for her mastery of BMW vehicles on the Nordschleife circuit. As a BMW factory driver, she was the first woman to win the Nürburgring 24 Hours (1996, 1997) and gained fame for driving the BMW "Ring Taxi" for over a decade.

While not directly related to her, I still felt pretty moved by this when I saw it in person in Spokane. It’s probably as close as I’ll get to being able to pay my respects. Having lost several close friends and family members to cancer recently, it really got me when I saw this car. RIP

Amazing woman whose life was cut short by the evil cancer. RIP

The whole van thing was insane. I cannot fathom driving in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring especially in the dark. This is on the Nordschliafe right?

Sabine was amazing and as animated as Hans Stuck.

LeMans in the dark all night would be scary enough. One of the greatest drives was J.J. Letho from Finland in the McLaren F1 with the Paul Rosche S70/2 V-12 BMW engine. J.J. drove much of the night in the rain.
