oldguy00 wrote Need some help with front brake noise. When I get in the car cold and back out of my driveway and apply brakes, it sounds like a whale crying out for a mate...... same when I then drive forward and come to a stop, incredibly embarrassing. It goes away after driving for several minutes, can come to stop with no noise once warmed up.
So I decided to change the brake pads. Although the sensor had not tripped, the pads were in fact quite worn. Installed new pads, lubricated on sides and back, used new top clip/pins hardware. First week, magical, no noise. Then it started again.
Any tips on what I can try? My understanding is that the noise is metal on metal contact? So is it the grease on the sides being washed out? Or is the top clip somehow rubbing on something? But in either case not sure why the noise stops once I've driven a couple km's?
I have the same issue with my 2021 M50. The past 2 winters they squeal very loudly and bystanders actually look and think am tractor trailer stopped. The brakes have a lot of life left so it’s not a maintenance issue. Asked dealer about it a few times they said “it’s normal and nothing can be done about it”. Great answer isn’t it?? Surprised they didn’t say it was my imagination.
