I wondered if someone here may have some experience of the "surround 360 camera retrofit set kit 5DN X5 G05 G06 G20 G30 G32 LCI" from Emtronika or similar ? The kit seems to contain everything apart from the Camera button for the gearshift console.
I have a couple of companies offering to retrofit this for me but in both cases they are telling me that the gearshift console camera button isn't supplied and (in their opinion) is not needed. This puzzles me.
Some sources tell me that once 5DN hardware is coded to the car - I won't need the button as the system automatically detects obstacles and shows you the pano-view on iDrive 7. But what if there are no obstacles and you want to see the 180 degree front view (eg pulling out of a side road)? Other sources say that voice assistance will allow the command 'Panoramic View' - or even that pushing the Park Assist button - you can switch to Pano view from the iDrive screen. Can anyone confirm this (please) ?
Whilst having the 'birds-eye' view is 'okay' for not kerbing the wheels or having a better idea of what's around you - it's really no substitute for actually seeing it in realtime. Spending 2k€ and Not having the panoramic view feels like buying a suit not getting the jacket - a kind of half-delivery of the 5DN option (car is already equipped with 05AS Driving Assistant and 05DM Parking assistance system)
If there's anyone on here that has retrofitted this option I'd be really grateful to hear their feedback. Worst case I'm told that if I really need it - I can get a gearshift console with the camera button (part no. 9857442) and they'll code it to the car - but that's an extra 550€ - making the overall retofit costs a bit over my budget.
If I do go ahead - I'd ideally have BMW fit it - but they'll probably not want to touch it (but I will try) Failing that I'll have to use of one of these two companies that have the needed experience and coding skills. I know they get the kits for 700€ so they are charging 1300€ for labour - which honestly seems like BMW hourly rates but I'm kinda desperate to get this option as I have a nasty manoever to park at home and at work - and have already managed to scrape the front bumper since I have to go quite close to the walls so the sensors are on continuous whilst I'm parking.
