My wife kind of destroyed her side mirror when backing into the garage. I managed to hobble it back together with gorilla glue but we want to fix it. Dealer is charging an exorbitant amount and they only will replace the entire mirror and mirror assembly with cameras etc, however only the plastic shell needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me what parts I need to purchase or even better, provide links?

Check out http://realoem.com. Put in the last seven of your VIN and you should be able to find the part numbers you're looking for. It's going to be hard, if not impossible, for anyone to give you those numbers with out the exact specs of your car – year, trim, options, etc.

I would give eBay a shot. You can even search the model / year / "side mirror" and that'd prob give you the part numbers in the thread if needed. You'd be surprised how often you can snag a practically new part for much cheaper than brand new.

Yes, I think finding a used mirror on ebay from a crashed car/parts yard would be the best bet. Already painted in your color, just plug it in.

Car looks like a BMW G01 X3?

Looks like you need to replace these part numbers.

51168746847 - The black ring surround that broke off in the front
51168496624 - The cover cap

But you will still need to pay for paint and with both of these prices combined with paint, you might be better off just buying an entire used assembly off ebay that is pre-painted.

I'd also consider looking at junkyards, particularly pick-n-pull places.

The only long-term solution is widening your garage doors by +1 foot.
BTDT.

I am not even sure what model you have, but search for side-view-mirror housings at BMW junk yards or eBay.

Good luck,

If it’s just the outer shell, you don’t need a full mirror assembly—dealers always push that.

On the BMW 1 Series (F20), the mirror is made up of:
• Mirror cap (painted/plastic shell)
• Mirror glass
• Indicator strip
• Full motor assembly

If everything still works (adjustment, folding, indicator), you likely only need the mirror cap.

I park on the right-hand side of our garage and pulling into it such that there's a reasonable amount of space between the cars for the driver's side door to open is an exercise in terror, lol. I have to get very close to the garage doors frame and then angle in just a bit, which doesn't make backing out all that much fun either. I wish widening the opening was in the cards, but it's not without some significant expense.

There's a reason I have my wife park on the left side...
