Dealer is charging an exorbitant amount and they only will replace the entire mirror and mirror assembly with cameras etc, however only the plastic shell needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me what parts I need to purchase or even better, provide links?

Looks like you need to replace these part numbers.
51168746847 - The black ring surround that broke off in the front
51168496624 - The cover cap
But you will still need to pay for paint and with both of these prices combined with paint, you might be better off just buying an entire used assembly off ebay that is pre-painted.

On the BMW 1 Series (F20), the mirror is made up of:
• Mirror cap (painted/plastic shell)
• Mirror glass
• Indicator strip
• Full motor assembly
If everything still works (adjustment, folding, indicator), you likely only need the mirror cap.

I have to get very close to the garage doors frame and then angle in just a bit, which doesn't make backing out all that much fun either. I wish widening the opening was in the cards, but it's not without some significant expense.The only long-term solution is widening your garage doors by +1 foot.
