Determined I needed to replace my AC system pressure sensor. My understanding was that removing the sensor would not allow the refrigerant to escape because there should be a shrader valve. Well the shrader valve was either always missing, or it broke, came loose and blew away. There was a lot of pressure. Attached are pictures before I removed the sensor and after. Anyone have any experience to know what happened and was I wrong to expect the system to hold pressure while I replaced the sensor?

I wouldn't have assumed there was a Schrader valve there. If there was, then there would have had to be something built on the pressure sensor, to push down on the valve to open it. Otherwise no pressure would go to sensor.
