boi222 wroteSounds like software and I haven't heard of this happening on our models. I'd drive like normal but watch and listen for anything out of the ordinary. But, I'm sure it'll be fine. Keep us posted. So all cylinders were misfiring. SA said they ran the test plan and took for a road test and the error was cleared. They did not replace anything and said if it comes back again, they would have to open a case with BMW. Should I be concerned ? What would cause cylinders to misfire and drivetrain malfunction but have it go away by itself ?
S68 X5MC wroteNot sure if it was the limp mode but idle was rough and the car kind of vibrated a bit when it was in limp mode due to drive malfunction. But the car seems to drive fine now so I dont know if maybe I got bad gas ? I did fill up right before this happenedSounds like software and I haven't heard of this happening on our models. frankymar wroteWere you on 03/2026.30?Just had the same drive train issue this weekend with my F95 2024. software update over air in April went probably wrong. Today my local dealer did a just released software update and now all ok…fingers crossed
frankymar wroteDid the dealer confirm that the previous version can cause the drivetrain issue? Or were they just guessing ?Correct and now 03/2026.50

"Drivetrain malfunction"
• Alert came came without warning. Car flat-bedded to dealer.
• Dealer replaced the ISM and returned the vehicle to me.
• Drivetrain malfunction occurred again that same day after the first repair.
• Currently in the shop, two weeks and counting...
• Latest dealer communication calls the issue a "known software issue" with a fix planned for July. No idea if this purported fix is part of a SIB (that's too new for inclusion on NHTSA), QI Campaign, or a Service Action/Measure.
My guesses:
• I am on 03/2026.30 and didn't have issues before the update, so possible that 03/2026.30 contributed to the error.
• A "July" fix sure implies that 03/2026.70 will address this issue. How do they know? Do they have a fix working already?
• BMW did not appear to recommend 03/2026.50 (I-Level 532 OTA version or 540 dealer-only version I believe) to my dealer as a full or partial fix, but I'm going to push for that just in case based on your comments, Guys.
I hope they don't expect me to wait patiently until July.

X5MC4ME wroteExcellent idea -- I'll ask about that tomorrow. I had been enjoying the improvements to CarPlay reliability, but would happily sacrifice that (and whatever AI they added to the Nav recommendations) for a working vehicle that won't leave me on the side of the road.I wonder why they couldn't try to backdate the software to render the car drivable?
Rfsbranch wroteIt's starting to smell lemon-fresh, that's for sure. BMW Customer Support has been useless to this point. I'm in a jurisdiction that doesn't have strong lemon laws, but I'm definitely not "going away". I really don't want to threaten anything legal at this point, as I suspect everything will get very formal, very fast. (?)🍋🍋🍋🍋
Lots of ways to approach compensation including: buyback, cash payment (calculated using estimated depreciation, monthly payments while off road), extended warranty and/or service package, etc. I've also purchased full PPF, OEM winters, and a hitch.
Open to ideas on what would be most likely to succeed.
Charcharius wroteI've had one and known people that have done buybacks. Mine was an Audi and had to work with my dealer's Service Manager. I had viden Audi USA a deadline to fix the issue and when it came they did the right thing. They gave be a 100% credit on the OTD price (as they should for you) and $5k cash towards new car for my troubles. Also gave me a loaner for the 3 months until new build came in.It's starting to smell lemon-fresh, that's for sure. BMW Customer Support has been useless to this point. Porsche was the same way with a friend who had a new Macan with a bad cam or crankshaft.
BMW could be a bit more of a challenge where you are but I would try the polite way first before threatening any action. Clearly with your car I would tell them "the dog don't hunt"
There is zero way I would wait until July, they want to make their problem yours.
- reaffirmed that 2026.70 is the fix for my situation. 2026.50 apparently will not help, and you cannot revert to older software as
- with the fix now known and scheduled, appears that BMW will actually consider a proper resolution on my case. Should know more this week, hopefully.
