BMW Drive Recorder Question

My 2026 BMW X5 M60i is on its way from the factory. I am looking to get a new dash cam. I am planning to either get a VIOFO 329S (interior dash cam) or a VIOFO 329T (telephoto cam).

In regards to the BMW Drive Recorder with Parking Assistance Pro on the M60i, how accurate is the parking collision sensing and notification? The benefit of the interior dash on the 329S being the security monitoring for the interior/sides while in parking mode versus the telephoto on the 329T to capture license plates better.

I was not sure how effective the BMW camera system is by itself and which dash cam to go with. Appreciate any help.

I’ve read it might not pick up on small moments like someone door dinging you or a light bumper tap because it needs a theft or a more significant moment to start recording. However if you press and hold the park assistance button it will start recording from a set amount of time prior so you can capture whatever moment may have happened (car cutting you off or whatever). That all said, it’s not always recording so that’s a big benefit to a traditional dash cam.

I am so glad you asked this question, I literally came here looking for the same guidance. I have a 2026 BMW X5 M60i and I'm contemplating getting a dashcam that's always recording as well.

I ended up going with the 329T. It arrived recently plus the OBD adapter for parking mode. I figured making sure I capture license plates in the event of an accident is more important than possibly capturing a possible door ding. My X5 should be here within a week and will see how it is soon!

I would be concerned about leaving anything plugged in to the OBD port. This could drain the battery and/or affect different systems.

A dedicated parking mode battery would be a better option—although more expensive and more work to install.
