I had read that BMW was going to start using next generation Rimac batteries in their EVs. Mate Rimac's Croatian company seems to be very cutting edge.

Supposedly, Porsche sold their investment in Rimac because of the EV losses Porsche-Audi-BMW have been taking.

Anyone know if these new Rimac batteries in BMW EV's are going to be range game changers?

I am an ICE guy but support BMW and realize they need to do EV's

I think RIMAC did great but as a startup car company because in order to get this performance that fast you have to cut some corners and the Batteries we have now heavily dependant on how good is your battery management system module which takes so much time and Money and i think Tesla is way ahead in this. Hardware very similar everywhere.

I think the Rimac partnership is more about improving BMW’s existing EV tech rather than some miracle battery breakthrough. The new batteries should help with faster charging, better efficiency, and some range gains, but I wouldn’t expect a massive game changer overnight.

BMW is still developing its own Neue Klasse battery platform, and Rimac seems to be helping with high-performance battery systems and engineering. Should make future BMW EVs more competitive though.

And honestly, I agree even as an ICE fan, BMW has to stay competitive in EVs if they want to keep their position long term.

I think one of the first Mate Rimac videos on Youtube was Mate taking an older BMW 320i, loading it up with his batteries and driving in the snow. The other younger guy in the car space that seems to be doing really cutting edge stuff is Christian von Koenigseeg in Sweden.

Tesla is deff not ahead of Rimac, in those terms, Rimac conquered the EV top performance market since he came in the game many years ago, there is a BIG reason why Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley, Bmw and some others have him as a partner and supplier of a lot of stuff not only batteries. I know him personally since he made that E30 with batteries some 17y ago ithink, and he skyrocketed from the to now being CEO of Bugatti Rimac, with only 38y of age.
We are still waiting for Tesla to drop "roadster that will decimate every EV vehicle and non ev vehicle ever made", he made that promise some 10+y ago, still nothing..
PS Koenigsegg is great at what he does, but is not that young (53y now)

Also, i doubt those new batteries will be a game changer, Mate Rimac himself said many times that battery technology is the main reason EV arent conquering the market and it will take still a lot of years of development for battery technology to be advanced and still not SUPER EXPENSIVE..
