Hi all, I'm curious if any DIYers have removed their exhaust tip housing, either for replacement or refinishing?

In short, I'm considering having the metal part of the housing powder coated (my company has in-house Powder Coating). I'm curious what the procedure is to remove these two housing pieces, and furthermore once removed, is the plastic (black) rim removable from the metal assembly?

Thank you in advance, sorry for the dirty car pics...

Yes I have removed this trim for replacement and it is a PITA. It requires removal of the rear bumper. Once you remove the bumper you will see it is a very straightforward process to separate. The trim is screwed into a bracket which is screwed into the bumper. Not hard, just takes quite a bit of work to get to.

I really appreciate the insight. Considering it would require removing the entire bumper, I'm going to hold on the plan for now. Alternatives (I've see through this forum) are, tape/cover and spray paint - but I'm weary this could result in paint chipping over time (would rather have the ugly silver housing than chipped paint).

Or purchase a set pre-finished (IND) and have a body shop install. This route would be much more expensive than I've prefer.

Anyway, thank you again
