Costco 93. Only the best for my baby

On road trips I use what I can get - sometimes that’s 89 or even 87, but that’s also why I fill up every time I stop. That way it’s usually not more than a quarter tank of lower octane going in….

Shell V Power every fill-up

91 from the local Kroger affiliate in CO, 93 from wherever in FL, 91-93 from Loves Truck Stops when on the road.

You're gonna find most people use 91-93, as it is a luxury car, and that's what it performs best at..

Been driving for more years than I care to admit and have never seen a gas station with only one octane level.
Pretty sure a guy who fills up with 87 octane does so by choice and not because there are no other options.

Shell and Chevron are the brands recommended almost invariably by the top tuners and engine builders but that is when the subject of the quality fuel is discussed and not where to purchase the cheapest premium or lower octane level.

I used to go to any gas station and do 93, but now I go to Shell or Mobil in my area because those, as i recently learned, are labelled as "Top Tier" gasolines. I didn't know there was a difference between gas stations.

Oufff must be a thrilling experience

I’m not sure if I can feel a difference of 1 octane, but only the best.

Sunoco Ultra 94 is the best I have found. Fortunately I have a station close and use it in everything from classic/modern Porsches to BMW, Harley, ATV, Mercury outboards, etc.. It’s used in all the 2 and 4 stroke gas Stihl equipment for the property.

Never have I had a bad fuel issue even for extended time (years) in the tanks with stabile.

There are stations in Texas that have 85, 87, and 88 or 89 as the 3 choices. But other than that, there seems to always be another station across the street that offers better choices since our highway system is not bound by a 1942 gas station with only 1 choice. I've seen these gas stations off the beaten path on very rural roads, but I don't stop at these no name stations anyway (only Chevron/Shell on trips). Costco gas anywhere near home is the easy choice for me, so I am fortunate for that. The lowest octane I've put in this particular X5 is 91.

I just make sure I don't floor the car or lug it too low since I'm usually in a turbocharged vehicle for the past 35 years or so. Also, remember that people who lease cars don't care about long term or the next buyer of the vehicle.

Been messing around for years with my M4CS between 90 octane “Recreational Fuel” and Sunoco's 91/93 Octane "Premium". M4 has a mild tune. Sunoco seems to produce better mileage (power) but since it's a garage queen lately and I'm not doing track days right now, I prefer the ethanol-free fuel. Would appreciate others experience as this is very subjective.

X5 gets premium which varies in octane, but I try to get Sunoco if it's a high volume station.

We should also keep in mind that in most areas all gas comes from the same one or two distributors. So the base fuel that the Mom and Pop corner store gets is the same that is delivered to Chevron, Costco, etc. The difference is the additive package that is used and added prior to distribution (except for Costco which adds it at the pumps). Of course places like Costco where the gas is turned over very quickly is much safer than Joe's Convience store where they may only get a fill up every other month.

Most fuel retailers get deliveries every 2-3 days, some daily. Ma and Pa getting a load of fuel once every 2 months would not be viable and why there are no extremely low volume stations left in most places. They are long gone at this point.

We use Shell or Chevron 93 only. I have read quotes from several tuners /builders suggesting that rotating between the two in order to realize the benefits of each is beneficial as their proprietary additive packages are different and that sounds quite logical to me. The benefits of "Techron"(Chevron) are well documented and have been widely know for many years.
Is Costco 93 every bit as good as Shell or Chevron 93? I don't know and cannot make that call beyond anything above pure opinion and doubt that anyone else here can either. I do know that there is no way I am going to wait in line for 20-30 minutes or more to save 3 bucks. Life is waaaaaaay too short for that nonsense.
