Our 2019 G05 M-Sport has just started showing signs of a front suspension leak.
The vehicle drops about 2 inches when left standing for a day or two.
It pumps up fine when we start it up and runs OK after.
The dealer has told us the front struts are leaking and also the pump is bad.
They are recommending a full change of 4 struts and pump for an eye watering $16,000!!!! They say the pumps has been overworking and needs to be replaced. We live in Panama.
There is no way this car its worth that kind of expenditure. Even the dealer says so.
Question.
I could go to an independent and avoid the high dealer charges which might lower the cost a bit...but not much I fear.
Do I really need to change all 4 struts?
Also what about swapping it out for the 2VF suspension. I like a solid ride so that would not be a problem for us.
Looking forward to receiving some positive news about this as we still love the car and would hate to just "dump it".
many thanks!

From some basic research it sounds like a change to 2VF system will be as expensive as repairing what I have.
And I cant find any aftermarket parts that are for my model available from Arnott etc.
Oh boy!

How did they determine the pump is bad? What happens if you just replace the front two leaking struts?

Have you looked at aftermarket struts?
From a quick search, this is what I find on ebay. And they have used compressors for about 500.
You should definitely find an independent shop, and not bmw dealer.

Yup, give those aftermarket ones a try. Not much to loose. A forum member had good experience with a $250 aftermarket air strut. My rear left has made puff noise for a year, no air leak through. I will go for an aftermarket one once it leaks. I will try DIY or indy to replace strut and compressor if I were you. Replace strut on 5 seater is easier than 7 seater. Last time I checked replacing compressor should not too hard either. Where to source a decent part is a question though. I'll look up on ebay first.

FYI, the best price for OEM strut is $1500 each at least. Compressor pirce I don't know. Hope I never need to know. Leaking air struts do put more stress on compressor. I don't know how long it will burn out. If you want to keep car for a while, may just replace it.

Regardless, you should not go dealer because their labor is $300/hr in my area.

Good question mate. I think they said it was overworked by constantly being on, pumping the suspension. I am waiting to see the report from the workshop. I believe it is a dealer covering their ass and making coin at the same time. I have spoken to an independent that says they will test everything and then report back. also they will use aftermarket parts.

Agree with everything you said.
I have already spoken to an Independent and will take the car there once they get an opening.
I have also researched other options and I believe that Bilstein and Arnott might make replacements that are about 70% less expensive.
Chances are that the oems are made by someone like them.
The independant says that the dealer is just wanting to change everything regardless of if it is needed.
I worked in a dealership and that is how we made our money...not by selling cars.
