Anything under 2013 the dealer will not put you in a BMW loaner nor are the obligated to. You may have gotten lucky with the rental agency. anything older than 2013 you will get a rental car that they sublet out to who ever they use.
But yes you can keep your car at home but they will be recording mileage to verify it isn't driven, any discrepancy won't be good.
