It is small compared to everything else built today. Most of my friends don't know how I can live with a car so small. They drive Escalades and Tahoes and Expeditions, etc., etc.

That's absurd. It's not small at all, even compared with other cars. The 2 series may be a "compact" with some stretch of the imagination. The 4 is easily a mid-size. It has the virtually the exact same footprint as an E39 5 series. |
You're missing the point. 2 sub compact, 3/4 compact, 5 mid size, 7 full size.
These terms are not relative to the past. They are relative to the present.
