I think by the virtue that we're looking at the X5, that we're either looking for a larger SAV or that the 4.0i is good enough. For me, I'm leaning towards the X5 for the size needed. If I were to replace my M3, I'd move to the X3M as I don't need the extra space and cost of the X5 Msport or X5M.

Same boat as you. I need the larger SUV. Plus, while the X3 sounded and handled great, I was not
MOVED. I felt it was pretty boring on the inside. Plus, it felt like a car. I prefer the feel of an SUV.
