Let's wait and see.
It can be taken for granted that both a manual and automatic gearbox will be available on the G87 M2. Still offering a manual transmission (despite the lowering take rate) is a
unique selling point for BMW M compared to high performance cars sold by Mercedes and Audi.
Also Porsche still taps into the manual gearbox market. Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger in 2009:
"First, the PDK weighs 66 pounds. Second, PDK does not have a clutch you can control, and if you want to do really big drifts, sometimes you need a clutch." and
"The manual gearbox in the GT3 is the best match for the purist." (source:
here). And in 2010 he commented:
"Grandmas can use paddles. They aren’t challenging." (source:
here). A couple of years later: the 991.1 GT3 RS was PDK only. On the 992 GT3 (2021) - offering both a manual and PDK gearbox - the PDK gear shifter was designed ...to mimic a manual gear shifter.
