You have to leave the engine hood open when charging the battery, its in the manual. I just did it, worked fine. I have the CTEK charger, not the one with the BMW logo on it but the normal one from CTEK and it took the battery all the way to float and then maintain, which I think is #7, then I disconnected it. No funky idiot lights and the car works fine.
